Trump supporter confronted my family in the parking lot

Tonight I went out to dinner at Olive Garden with my wife and daughter. As we are getting into the car a black truck with two white guys around late 20s to early 30s pulls up behind my car in the parking lot and yelled "Fuck you commie" and "We won" which I'm guessing is because I have a PROUD DEMOCRAT and HILLARY bumper sticker on my car. As they took off in a plume of black smoke and screeching tires I noticed he had a Trump sticker and one of those "my family" gun nut stickers like this one:



I was shocked and saddened that someone would harass my family like this, especially in front of my daughter, and ruin our nice night out. On the drive home I was tearing up thinking that this is what our country has become. My amazing wife consoled me before I really broke down but I tried to hold it together in front of my daughter. I am scared of the world that she will grow up in. A world of hate. A world that will be defined by a vile, racist, sexist, Islamophobic woman groper. Unless we can impeach him soon.

I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I really do.

The best way I have found to deal with this kind of hostility, is to ignore it and never even make eye contact with the aggressor. Remember, they want a confrontation, and you don't. There is no no point in talking to them, since logic is not part of their make up. i would casually get the damn license number if I could and if there was a threat involved it may be a terrorist threat or assault depending on the state you are in. Stay calm and go about your business. These people resort to intimidation because they can't win in the world of idea. Total losers. get a license plate number or a picture. Have the cops talk to them. You do not have to press charges, even in situations where it is possible. The cops are happy to talk to potential troublemakers and stop trouble before it begins. Believe it or not, it sometimes works. These guys could be people already known to law enforcement. It is worth thinking about.

The cops don't like it when someone harasses a person's family. They are most likely to act in those circumstances.

With a plate number... You could then file a police report?...Bet the incident might even be on a security camera they could find. I hate to see those "people" get away with this without consequence.... Because if they get away with it, it will only make them more aggressive in future attacks.

I am almost 60, but I remember when the Reaganazis were going all out fascist in the 80's, much more so than the Trumpsters (amazingly) are today. It got so bad that a guy got in my face at a bar. I guess you could call the cops, but this guy (Reagan supporter) was starting to get physical, and I was having a bad day. I wouldn't do it nowadays as I was a hothead back then, but I'm not talking normal verbal harassment, but in-your-face, spitting hatred. Ironically, I've seen at least a dozen Trumpsters start fights against normal people with no provocation, so while your question obviously would indicate that Trump supporters don't deserve acts of violence committed against them, it's not out of line to think that such a provocation would easily escalate to fisticuffs...or worse, and if I were in my 20's again, I don't know specifically how I would act (though if someone swung a fist at me, there'd be no question).

EDIT: Just making sure I'm clear: I do NOT advocate the start of violence, and I DO advocate stepping back when possible. But I draw the line when people actually come after me and start poking their fingers against my chest, or shoves me. This goes for anyone, not just white male Trump supporters.
