Now don't think I like Jeff Sessions, I don't, not even a little bit. He will weasel out of this bind only because of the Republican majority in Congress, which means they Chair the Committees. But he will be GREATLY weakened by it. And that's no small thing.
But Jeff Sessions probably isn't in the Trump/Russia inner circle.
However, thankfully he did us one Hellacious favor. His flub has given us a chance. Just one chance to see behind the locked door where all the shit that Donald Trump doesn't want anybody to see in his nefarious and illegal dealings with Russia is locked.
Think of it this way, somewhere there's a room full of very, very smelly shit. In this room are Donald's less than honorable business dealings with Russian Oligarchs. In this room is the even more smelly shit of the Trump Campaigns illegal, and traitorous dealings with the Russians during the 2016 campaign. Even more smelly shit that includes video of sick sexual practices from some 'high level Republican politician'. The smelly shit where Putin has Donald by the short hairs. Why there's really no telling just what smelly shit may be in this room. But be assured of one thing, the shit in this room stinks.
And you can be sure Donald and his gang have put a stout door in front of this room. With a big lock, and they really hope nobody ever gets to open the door. Because their shit stinks. As shit is wont to do.
Chances are this door was going to be forever locked. Now, yes, a few people have knocked on this door. We here we want to get into this room, that's for sure. We would like everybody in America and indeed the world to see behind the door, to see all the shit. Because we know what's lying in that room behind the door. So we in our small way, we have knocked seeking entrance.
Democratic Politicians have knocked. A few in the media have knocked, but not many. However you and I know that NOBODY will ever willingly open the door. So what we need is our own key.
The Jeff Session flub might give us a chance. Just this one chance mind you, to get a key to this door. But if we don't make use of this one chance, we will never, ever, open the door.
The media firestorm the past 48 hours was the real chance. Sessions recuses self from investigating Trump/Russia. This is our one and only chance. To get an INDEPENDENT Special Prosecutor, and a special bi-partisan Congressional Committee who will investigate the entire Trump team/Russian connections. These are the things that can not only unlock the door, but kick it wide open so EVERYONE can see all the shit.
But without an INDEPENDENT Special Prosecutor, and a Bi-Partisan Special Congressional Committee, that door will stay firmly locker. Even if Jeff Sessions goes to jail for perjury. Not just because Trump wants it locked, but because ALL Republicans want it locked. There's enough shit in that room to kneecap their party for 25 years.
Jeff Sessions isn't in the know regarding the shit in that room. Did he lie under oath? Yes he did. Will it cost him his job. My gut says no, it wont. But whether or not Sessions stays or goes ultimately doesn't open the door.
Jeff Sessions gave us an opportunity, and it may be the only one we get, to open the locked door and see all the shit that Trump/Russia doesn't want anyone to see.

(2,807 posts)The point that the Trump team sold us out to the Russians. Which, to me, is more important in the long run, than Jeff Sessions lying under oath.
