Ga. university hack may have compromised voter records
Kennesaw State University in Georgia is investigating a breach at its Center for Election Systems that may have compromised state voting records.
"Kennesaw State officials are working with federal law enforcement officials to determine whether and to what extent a data breach may have occurred involving records maintained by the Center for Election Systems. Because this involves a pending criminal investigation Kennesaw State will have no further comment on this matter," the university said in a statement.
The Center for Election Systems is a unique project impacting all facets of Georgia's elections. It tests every voting machine used in the state, creates all federal, state and local ballots and houses the voter rolls for every district in Georgia.
Atlanta's WSB-TV News reported that the center's systems were hacked Wednesday night and voting data was compromised.
During the 2016 election season, voter rolls in Arizona and Illinois were both hacked, attacks attributed to Russia. There is no reported evidence a foreign power is involved in this breach.
