In Many Ways, We're Benefiting from A Media War

The news media have been struggling for some time, now, and are competing for an audience that is increasingly looking for news in other places than the mainstream. However, the major media sources still have more resources, larger staffs, and connections to people within the power structure that alternative media can't access easily.

Our leading news media still have a larger audience than many of us realize. But, it's become a hugely competitive sort of thing. That's beneficial for us, though. Right now, it's clear to anyone with any sense that there's a monstrous story out there about Trump, the Russians, and an election that was not a fair one.

Right now, the major media outlets smell the blood in the water and are circling every closer to the center of what will become a feeding frenzy. Each media outlet wants desperately to be the one that tells us the final explosive truth that destroys an administration we all know needs to be forced out of power.

Who will break the final barrier that compels Trump to resign and takes down his entire Cabinet? I don't know. The New York Times and the Washington Post are in there, but so are the three major broadcast TV networks, ABC, NBC and CBS. People often think those are old school and fading, but each of them commands a larger viewing audience daily than all of the cable news outlets combined for actual news programming.

All of those major outlets are devoting maximum resources to this story-to-be. All are gathering and corroborating evidence. All are working around the clock to pull ahead of the others. All are scared to death that they will fall behind and end up being scooped by one of the others. There is massive pressure to break this story with something that cannot be ignored.

Who will win? Who cares? It doesn't matter, really. What matters is that they are all in the race and running as hard as they can. In the end, we'll all benefit, regardless of who reaches the finish line first. When will that happen? It's impossible to say, but it could come at any time. As soon as one of the media giants thinks they have enough, they will go with it, wall-to-wall.

It's gonna be great, folks! Watch for it!

That's why. They are all feeling the pressure to break it open. Best of all, they still have the resources to do it, and they will.

5. In the beginning, it felt like News was moving slowly. Too slow for me, but still moving.

Now it feels like speed is picking up and important details are coming out thick and fast. Almost too fast to keep up. Fortunately, we have lots of committed and interested parties here at DU who are happy to scan the news and post links to the stories that add to our body of knowledge about all of this complicated story. I honestly don't know what we would do without them.

So thank you to all the super sleuths who are reading, digging and mining for information and then sharing with the rest of us. The puzzle is being filled in by dogged journalists and the people reading and compiling the evidence. I feel certain tRump's time in the White House is coming to a close and we will have those dedicated to uncovering the truth to thank!

4. I've been around for long enough to remember a lot of political happenings and scandals.

This current fiasco dwarfs anything I have ever seen. It has all the earmarks of espionage, treason and madness set in the scenario of a slow motion train wreck.

Just before the election I signed up for the trial digital memberships offered by NYT and WaPo. I have decided to keep both subscriptions active. This administration is proving to be a boon to the "dishonest media" that Trump hates.

6. Yes. In some ways, it's moving faster than I expected.

The scandal and story has built some great momentum already, enough to keep it rolling, no matter what, really.

We will literally owe our democracy and national security to whoever can obtain the information and report it in such a way that the majority of the American stooges are able to understand what happened to us.

9. Exactly. And the media outlet that breaks it will get vastly

improved ratings or subscribers. That's why everyone who covers political news or other national stories is calling everyone he or she knows to see if there is more to discover. In addition, people who know something are looking for someone to to listen to their story. Trust is the issue, of course. People who can blow the whistle need to know they're protected.

Believe me, everyone who can is working on this story, from one direction or another. The major news outlets have someone coordinating all of the research and assembling things into a major breaking news story. We have no idea right now how close they are to breaking it, either. That is the most closely-guarded secret there is right now.

But, one morning, the news will explode and everyone will see it. Then, all the other news outlets will rush to release what they have, whether they were ready to break the story or not. It will be THE NEWS.

I can hardly wait. I wish I was in that area of journalism, but I never was.

CNN went with the strategy of hiring the opposition. MSNBC tried the same. It's interesting to watch how they strategize. You're right, though, we all come out on top.

10. Frankly, I don't think any of the cable or Internet news networks will break this.

They've diluted their news gathering and reporting too far, now, to have the resources available. They're all about "interpreting" the news these days. They just don't have the reporting power they once did.
