We all know Trump is going down. It's hard to believe Pence knows nothing about the Russia collusion and all of his actions to date have been as a part of the coverup, so he needs to go down, too.
So let's say the Republicans hem and haw all the way to the 2018 mid terms. They don't take him down and they go into the elections with the stinking cloud of Trump hanging over their heads.
That makes it extremely likely that the Democrats will take back the House.
The Speaker of the House can be anybody, they don't need to be a member of the House. The Teabaggers made that well known when they were about to take down Boehner.
Hillary is elected Speaker of the House, Trump and Pence go down, and voila! President Hillary Clinton!
What's more is she would be eligible for two more full terms under the terms of the 22nd amendment as she would not have been president for more than half a term!

(22,669 posts)She wanted to win under normal conditions. It took insurmountable for her not to be elected properly.
We should be looking at what made 63 million other voters think they were not being conned. To this day, some of them are still holding out.
We need HRC as president more than ever, but we have to work out the mess we're in.

(6 posts)We can now see that our checks and balances system is flawed when one party hold all the cards AND is operating in a fact free environment with an "alternative" fake news source to back them up...............Fox isn't broadcasting the facts or the lies of the trump campaign advisors....at all........yet. Trump voters do not watch CNN or MSNBC at all. I wish this would happen but unfortunately Pence is almost certainly not involved. Frankly as much as I hate republican liars like Ryan and the ultimate deplorable Mcconnel........if Pence had been elected we wouldn't be here right now. Hes not insane and hes not a liar on a Trumpian level..........just your standard GOP liar

(1,097 posts)Every action and statement he has taken or made over Russia has been a calculated part of the coverup.

(90,681 posts)We've had at least a dozen (maybe 2 dozen?) newbies float the same idea. Not one can provide a legal basis.
Hillary is a retired Secretary of State -- she is nowhere in the line of succession.

(2,108 posts)With Dems holding majority in House, they can nominate ANYONE to be Speaker. Constitutionally, it's not required that a sitting member be elected Speaker.
House votes to impeach trump and pence
Senate votes to remove them from office
Speaker of the House becomes president.
A very, very convoluted occurance, but completely Constitutionally possible.
The magical thinking that so many indulge in here on Du is amazing.
And it's not just newbies either. Smh.

(58,653 posts)We may win the Senate in '18, and that's a long shot. No way we get a supermajority big enough to convict Pence and elevate a hypothetical Hillary SoH.

(22,308 posts)IF all your fantasies begin to come true, Pence would resign and allow Trump to pick some other (R) as VP. We could even end up with JEB. Your assumption is based on everything happening at once and that just isn't possible.
Besides that, Rep. Pelosi would have something to say about HRC suddenly becoming Speaker, as would others.
No, Hillary can't become President before the 2020 election.

(284 posts)They said Pence and Trump wouldn't be impeached simultaneously, so the new VP would just step in.

(59,503 posts)I also doubt that they will even agree that she is the most deserving. Their argument would be that "a Republican" got the needed EV votes to win. They could further say that the two options were not at all close. The Republican was for repealing (and replacing if pushed ) Obamacare, prolife SC Justices, against Dodd/Frank, against anything related to dealing with climate change etc Hillary Clinton was the complete opposite.
Not to mention, like with Agnew/Nixon - Pence if he had problems would be out first. Trump would nominate someone as VP that the Senate would confirm -- and no that is not going to be HRC -- and that person will become President if Trump is impeached. (I have no idea who the "Ford" equivilent would be.
You would have had a stronger argument in 2001 - had 911 not happened - when a newspaper sponsored recount of ALL Florida votes showed Gore actually won FL. Yet, that never would have happened.
This is why they would argue that the Presidency should remain in Republican hands -- just someone not tainted by any of the Trump actions. Unfortunately, if it somehow came down to Speaker, they would keep the speaker they have.
