(15,543 posts)...need to hear at least one person who isn't afraid to note that the Republican-Russian Emperor is wearing no clothes. And his naked skin is a flabby bag of degenerate, bankrupt, illegal and treasonous morals, ethics and tactics. So in that sense it's good Shep is on Fox (R-propaganda).

(58,785 posts)about Flynn's dealings. Mentioning Russia doesn't mean this isn't a deflection away from them. look at Flynn, the guy who did this "before" he joined them and has been fired for "lying" to poor, innocent Pence. Gimme a break.
He would not be even pushing this look-at-Flynn distraction if Fox hadn't decided their audience was questioning the versions they've been pushing. Fox's first concern is audience share, second supporting whoever and whatever Rupert Murdoch says. In both cases, they have to keep "trust" by telling their audience what their investigations tell them their audience wants to hear.

If by accident they come across some honest journalism, they will most likely tune it out, but there is a chance that someone might say, "hold on a minute, what is going on here?" and tune in for more straight reporting instead of all the O'Reilly and Hannity bullshit.

(5,730 posts)I hope he stays there, as long as the viewers are watching him. Give them something besides evil, impossible junk, to think about. The viewers are stupid to begin with, and then when they are pummeled with extreme RW propaganda, there is no hope. SS is hope.
On the other hand, if the viewers don't listen, MSNBC should take him. He would be wasted at CNN, lost with their multitudes of panelists. A few of the panelists are very experienced...Bagala, Gergan...but they are given equal equivalence in time to airheads, male or female. You have to watch 20 minutes of Kayleigh types to get to 3 minutes of Gergan. Can't do it. I only watch it if GVSewagewoman is on, and I have just a bit to catch the news.
Fox is becoming better, from a very low bar, and MSNBC is worse, Tweety is losing it. He interrupts his guest, who may have important information for us, and are a hell of a lot more interesting than he is, before they get two words out of their mouths. GV Sewagewoman, oh, just shoot me, if I had to listen to her. RM has Been on a role with the Russian thing, but SS may have outdid her. Not a competition for me. Just speak, and get the truth out there.Joy doesn't get her due. She is good and should replace GVS or Tweety.

(37,648 posts)Since he knows the deal at Fox, I'm thinking he cleared it with brass, to be able to go all in on Trump, since he has an opinion show. There's usually an agreement as to what slant a show will have.

(33,517 posts)...a place where one could find out what was actually happening in the Communist party and hence, the government.
Fox News now functions very much like Pravda did in those days; it is almost the official mouthpiece of the Republican Party, just as Pravda was the mouthpiece of the Communist Party.
In my view, there's very little, if any, distinction between both the historical official mouthpiece in Moscow, and the current one in the United States, which is run, interestingly enough, by an Australian, Rupert Murdoch.
No Fox News journalist can say anything without official party approval in my view. This might mean that Trump is losing Party support.
One hopes so. Trump is the most insane Republican in the national leadership ever. That says a lot, since there are few people in the Republican party who have a firm grasp of reality and the magnitude of the problems facing our country and our world.
This strengthens the case that they're going to put Pence in, since he's easier to control. He's no rocket scientist, lacks competence, and he's a very bad example of a human being, but he's at least under some control from the top.
I personally hope this will happen, since the destruction to our country and the world will be much worse with Trump than it would be with Pence.

(37,648 posts)I think the network has an official stance, and has decided to slant right, and take its talking points from the GOP. BUT it seems as the network has decided to have a couple of opinion shows where the hosts are allowed to be more moderate or to the left, in the interest of ratings. Since they have a lock on prime time conservative viewers with Hannity, O'Reilly, and I guess others.
Remember they also had Megyn Kelly, who entered a full-out battle with Trump. Rightwingnuts think she was fired, but she wasn't. Her contract was going to be renewed at an INCREASED rate, but she got a plumb contract at...is it NBC?
I think Fox was pleased with the ratings generated by the Kelly-Trump fight. But their main opinion shows remained rightwingnut.
And maybe it is only because it's Trump. But this is great. I had no idea Fox had guys like this on their network.

(33,517 posts)...the people who own the Republican Party lock, stock and barrel.
As marketeers, they've been very successful, the people who own the Republican Party, lock, stock and barrel, by appealing to a class of people for whom they have no sympathy, and whose interests they actually oppose.
Having grown up with a father who had only a fragment of an education and who was in fact, a laborer, I know very well how this works.
We should remember that in the Soviet Union, there were many people who bought Pravda propaganda right up until the last day. They were, in general, not intellectuals.
The first (and probably only) time that the Soviet Union was ruled by a person who actually cared about the "average" citizen, it collapsed.
As we move towards a one party state dominated by lies, fraud, and a savage lust for power for its own sake, we should be terrified if the leaders of the party and the media which shares, provides, and to a large extent actually owns its power, we should hope that these people will forget this.
I doubt they will, at least in my lifetime, which is coming in any case to its conclusion. The Republican Party is near the completion of being stripped of a single person in it who bears a shred of decency.
Propaganda is a very powerful thing. The instantaneous media has made it even more powerful. No monolithic party dedicated not to the interest of the citizens of the country it rules, but only to its own corrupt power for power's sake, can function without that. The brilliant thing about Ruppert Murdoch - brilliant but evil - was to recognize this, and to hoodwink the lower, and frankly simplistically thinking classes into betraying their own interests by the use of continuous distractions from reality.

(37,648 posts)It was just a choice of words I used. Yes, I know that Fox has been the mouthpiece of the GOP. I remember the memos that were leaked in which the GOP is giving Fox the talking points for the week.
My point was about Shep, though. They guys with their own shows rarely go off on a tangent, risking their jobs and shows. It's understood from the beginning what the show is going to be, and how the host is going to be. That's all I'm saying.
It's not like once or twice he went off script and said something outrageously rude about one of his far-right fellow hosts of another show, like Hannity. That's what Olbermann did once that got him in trouble...he said "oh, here it comes, get out the buckets" speaking of fellow MSNBC commentator Joe Scarborough, when Scarborough was being brought in by satellite to make some statemetns. Unfortunately for Olbermann, his rude comment was caught by the mike, and Scarborough heard it, too.
Then there was Megyn Kelly, in an all-out battle with Trump. This did not cause her problems with Fox, and in fact, they tried to renew her contract at millions more annually. But she went with another network.
All I'm saying is there are mouthpieces for the GOP, and then there are some who are allowed to go off script, if it's in their contract. That's all I'm saying.
MSNBC for whatever reason, has more liberal hosts of shows than other networks. Yet, it turns its network over to a moderate Republican (w/a weak Democrat sidekick) for several hours every weekday morning. Ratings are ratings.

(6,262 posts)They must pay him mega. I would watch him if I ever watched Pox, but I don't, and only see him in clips by others, and impressed by what I see.
He must be lonely in their lounge.
How I wish he would move to CNN, or preferably to kick Greta from MSNBC. Doubt he would go to any other than CNN or ABC, CBS or NBC majors. He is a major talent as far as I can tell.
Then Pox would be without any "real" newsperson.
Kelly never qualified in that regard IMO - just flash with a smattering of smarts.
