Is Trumpcare intended to fail? Some in WDC say 'yes.'

Ezra Klein via Political Wire:

“Quietly, the idea that the House bill is designed to fail is percolating around Washington. I’ve heard it from a half-dozen people now. The law’s construction is shoddy. The outreach has been nonexistent. The hypocritical, hyper-accelerated process is baffling. Nothing about it makes sense.”

“But if you flip the intention — if you assume Republican leaders want to see a repeal-and-replace bill die in the Senate so they can say they tried and move on to tax reform — all of a sudden, it makes much more sense. It explains why more time wasn’t spent getting the bill right. It explains why they’re going so fast. It explains why they don’t care what the Congressional Budget Office says. It explains why they aren’t doing the outreach that would normally buffer them from this backlash.”

and if you try to tell them, they squawk "That's communism!" I know this because I've tried.

Because they have no clue what they're talking about, they become ideologues, fixated on some fantasy system that can never work in real life because they have no clue in the world how real life situations work.

They're not designing it to fail, but it ill fail spectacularly because they're ideologues who base it all on profound ignorance.

At least the Heritage people talked to insurance people when they came up with their plan, which eventually morphed into the ACA. Dolts like Ryan think they know it all and only talk to each other and to their rich patrons, who are supposed to know everything because they have so much money.

That's why this plan is such an unmitigated disaster that even Republicans are backing away from it.

but ACA is simply "too big to fail". They'll say they have no choice but to fix ACA, take credit for "saving it", and move on to cutting taxes the conventional way.

Something along those lines.

If there's one thing the GOP favors more than tax cuts for the wealthy: maintaining power. That won't happen if millions of Americans lose their health insurance. Passing Trumpcare would be political suicide.
