IF there had been a public option...

1: No insurance company could charge outrageous rates when it was the only provider in an area... and
2: The GOP's sabotage of the important risk corridors might not have worked.

Am I correct in #2?

2. Social Security is a public option. So is CHIPS.

And other programs. They intend to destroy all if they all, piece by piece where they can't manage all at once, but they have great hopes the word "privatize" will lessen resistance. Sounds so much better than destroy.

The VA is socialized medicine. They also intend to destroy the VA.

3. I was asking specifically about the public option in Obamacare...

4. Sorry, I was just responding to the notion that

a public option, or any kind of option, would provide any protection against dismantling. They'd just choose other means of sabotage. Remember, congress controls the checkbook.

In fact, the current threat of the market collapsing completely is actually a serious problem for the dismantlers. They want to drag the dismantling out long enough, while throwing vast clouds of smoke and mirrors over the process, that eventually people don't know who to blame for it and become resigned.
