…the "Dean scream" wasn't something used by Republicans against him…that was the work of "mainstream" Democrats who wanted him out because he was "too liberal" (and, in particular, opposed to the Iraq War at a time when most leading Democrats had been ready to give Dubya his blank check lest they be seen as "unpatriotic&quot .

It was the fucking media.

The same fucking media who let them "swiftboat" the eventual nominee.

Birkenstocks and patchouli, heaven forfend.

Hell, some of them probably thought pot and gay marriage should be legal, and any knowledgeable beltway EXPERT in those days would tell you with absolute certainty that the American people would NEVER tolerate gay marriage or marijuana being legal.

Never, you silly arugula eating latte liberals, you hear me? NEVER!

I fully admit that I bought into the bullshit that year, about Kerry being the "smart" choice because his war hero history would make him impervious to character attacks and his vote for the IWR, even though I opposed the thing, would inoculate him to post 9-11 "soft on terra" shit.

In short, I bought the beltway conventional wisdom poobah bullshit hook, line, and sinker.

What happened in '04? Karl Rove used that war hero thing against Kerry in a particularly brazen piece of politically immoral ju-jitsu, and Kerry's IWR vote prevented us from being able to articulate a morally cogent argument on the core issue of the election.

Then, 4 years later, those same beltway geniuses told us it would be INSANE to run the one term African American senator with the funny name. Are you out of your minds? Don't you want to go with a safer choice, a surer bet?

well, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway. We know what happened, don't we.

And in between 2004 and 2008 I figured out that the beltway self-appointed gatekeepers of opinion and conventional wisdom are full of shit.

.............that Howard had ALREADY finished third in Iowa before that scream even happened.

I'm as hardcore a Howard Dean supporter as you're likely to find (to this day, I still love that guy), but the fact of the matter is that all the momentum he had at the end of 2003 had disappeared by the time people started voting in the primaries. People wanted a candidate who could attack Bush on his strongest position (the war). Whether that was something that came down from above or just something that came up as the primaries started, I don't know, but I do know that a lot of the people I heard said that Howard was weak on war (which was still a pretty popular war at the time) and Kerry could steal that platform from Bush because he was a war HERO and Bush was a war DODGER. How those dirty fuckers were ever able to turn it around so Bush looked like the hero and Kerry the coward, I will NEVER understand.

So I guess what I'm saying is you may or may not be wrong about the DNC being behind Howard's downfall (I don't know enough about it to comment), but the fact remains that Howard had already finished behind Kerry and Edwards in Iowa before "the Dean scream" even happened.

It was just a video clip of a man. A man giving a speech at a rally. And he yelled.

"Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaarhgh!"

So?

I still don't get it.

It just proves that EVERY candidate we put up will be "fatally" flawed in some way or other - at least as far as the national media is concerned.

Don't believe the hype!

Too many people bought it about Hillary.

He wasn't "stopped".

His campaign collapsed because or poor management and his inability to convert his rally crowds to actual voters. He came in a mediocre third place in Iowa before the scream ever occurred.

With Howard Dean yelling - as if that was "bad?" Personally who gives a shit, it made him look all the more enthused!

Anyway, yes, pussygop has done such horrid, crass shit that any other legit candidate would have been destroyed for. The reason he got away with it and will continue to get a free pass - the corporate "media" cover it like some sort of lucrative moneymaking display. Which, for them, it is. Journalism is almost dead, people think Fox/Msnbc et al and Hate Radio are "the media" and to most, it is.

Sadly the critical thinking populace are the shrinking minority. Most people in this country don't give two shits. And if they spare a thought, it's not pretty. Most don't vote.

I wish I could spare a more forgiving thought but I can't bullshit about it. Yes, Dumpster is a complete shitbag, and it's really incredible to witness the fucking level of horrifying shit they let him get away with.

But remember... the corporate media ownership love him, thus he gets coverage and a "free pass" by all cable news and other bullshit outlets. We are seeing some good print journalism and investigative journalism, don't get me wrong. But too many americans still are getting their news from the corporate-owned bullshit outlets, and they just gloss over the horrifying facts.

Who knows, we can only hope that the dumpster fire ceases to be a cash cow for the corporate media outlet owners/investors, maybe when that's the case we can all be saved.

(sorry, don't mean to be a debbie downer... I really think that this charade of Humpty Dumpty will prolly be over soon, fingers crossed.)

That would have ENDED her candidacy BEFORE the attack ad even ended. For the life of me, I can't figure out how this buffoon became so incredibly bulletproof. To me, it's just proof positive that the vast majority of Republican voters are voting for the R after the name. You could literally run ANYONE, put that R after the name, and they'd vote for them.
