I'm actually going to sell my house and land and move to a blue state

I'm really going to do it. I will have to fix my house up some first ( paint, etc) then I'm selling and buying a travel home on wheels and moving to California. Yep, just sick of Trumpsters

We're in Madison, which is blue, but so much of Wisconsin is red. Walker makes me sick, but he keeps getting elected. I wonder where in California is still affordable. The less expensive areas are red, just like all rural areas in the country. It really has become a urban vs suburban and rural.

Loved the time we had with it. You can go anywhere, stay as long as you like, there are RV parks everywhere. Check with your kid to make sure you will be allowed to park for a long time in his driveway. Lots of places don't like RV semi-permanently parked. But you can negotiate long-term parking arrangement with most RV parks for much less than the nightly or weekly rate.

Sun Mar 12, 2017, 07:08 AM

So much so, that DeLay took special pains to gerrymander our 13 term rep, Martin Frost, out of a job because he was doing too much good. So instead, our blue part of Dallas was shotgun married to some bible belt country outside town, and now we have Pete Sessions, who is sort of like Louie Gohmert without the speech impediment.

But that doesn't change Dallas, itself.

I love Boston, but it is definitely not the low rent district. We still take our summer vacations on the outer tip of Cape Cod, even though it's a royal pain in the ass to get to from here. If they harass my wife again at immigration, that may come to an end, too (after 33 years in a row of making the trek!). So far, they haven't done that at Logan, only Atlanta, but the way things are going....

I lived on the upper Cape, the part that works for a living, for 10 years. I know what you mean about a difficult trek, especially in the summer when it's bumper to bumper for 3 months.

I doubt your wife will be particularly harassed at Logan. The largest group of undocumented workers in Boston are Irish. Second largest are Portuguese speakers from Portugal, Brazil and the Cape Verde Islands.

Sun Mar 12, 2017, 04:14 PM
Mar 2017

Just think of the fanatics that drive bumper to bumper from here to Austria, Italy or the Balkans and back during the summer. Bosstown to Truro is three and half hours on a bad day. Our neighbor is from Austria and drives the whole way down there and back. 12 hours each way if he's lucky. The stress is getting over to North America at all. Although there are now nonstops from here (Düsseldorf) to Boston, they don't run on Fridays, and I need to be here right up until Friday morning. So, it's back to changing in Paris or Amsterdam.

There are some normal mortals living on the lower Cape, too. A woman we know inherited a house and some land outside of Wellfleet, grows much of her own food, and works at several jobs during the year. She's a drummer when school's out and teaches during the school year. We met her when was cooking at the Lighthouse in Wellfleet in 1984. Our younger daughter wasn't even born yet.

As for Logan--who knows what orders the CBP guys have been given? My wife left the States before the inauguration last time. Here's hoping Logan is as it was. For the first time in decades, my wife doesn't plan to travel out Massachusetts this trip. I have to make a quick run back to the States in April. I hope things aren't too crazy.

Because the request for change of venue was granted, the jury came from all over Ventura County. The courthouse happened to be in Simi Valley, which is maybe 10 miles from the L.A. County line. Ironically enough, with the move from downtown LA to Simi Valley, the trial ended up being held much closer to where the actual event happened (Lakeview Terrace, in the Northern San Fernando Valley).

I used to live in Simi Valley, and based on my experience when I served on a jury (and had to drive all the way over to the main courthouse in Ventura), I'd say that it's a little more conservative than LA county, but I'd be willing to bet you can pretty much find all types there. (If you had to color code it, I'd put it at a light lilac, along the lines of what you'd get in Vegas.)

Interesting area. Stayed in Wenatchee and worked in Quincy. Quincy is a small town of about 5,000, but has lured several large high tech companies to the town, which has changed the dynamics of the area. They are moving there due to very low cost of electricity created from the Columbia River. I was amazed that all of the little towns will have at least one drive through coffee shop.

return to a blue state, but that would benefit us at the expense of our current state. One could, however, potentially be of more benefit and cut the difference by moving to a swing district in a swing state. Not incidentally, liberal districts in liberal states are almost uniformly distinctly expensive. And we're at a "downsizing," limited income period of life. Swing could be doable.

Oh well, I would grab my husband and do at least that anyway if we were free, which we are not. Strangely enough, both our California-raised children married southerners and ended up living and raising their families in the south. And we followed. Happy to say at least all the grandchildren inherited good, intelligent minds and liberal personalities. Can't leave them.
