As of right now, there are about 20 mil. people with healthcare, who would not have it if it were not for the ACA. The Republican plan to repeal and replace it would probably drop about 15 mil. of them. That adds up to a lot of angry people. In congressional elections, it is often the angry people who carry the day which means it would not be good for 2018. However, it looks as though his healthcare plan will never get passed, with the hard right in congress viewing it as Obamcacare light, and moderates in the Senate refusing to vote for anything that will phase out Medicaid expansion. That leaves the ACA standing with the problems of rising premiums and deductibles and a Republican congress that would refuse to do anything to help with that. So, you are back with the angry people again. Most Americans would be smart enough to know that the GOP controls both houses of congress and the White House, and that they are ones responsible. With the Presidents penchant for delusional thinking, It's hard to tell if he even realizes the predicament he is in.

(2,795 posts)If it passes, he won and that's all he cares about. Winning, losing, biggest bestest numbers.
He apologizes for nothing, he takes no responsibility for anything negative and manages to deflect the blame.
He doesn't care. Not caring has gotten him to the White House, why fix what ain't broken (in his mind).

(7,432 posts)S/he said that Trumpy doesn't think about consequences beyond the immediate ones. He creates his own reality and acts within that illegitimate frame, but doesn't view that action as consequential, other than the fact that he's acted in his own best interests and others will have to adjust. When the shit hits the fan and he fails, he REACTS by creating another reality framework within which his actions make sense, again without anticipating the consequences. He does this in a serial manner. That's how he rolls.
So, by his strong advocacy for the GOP Sick Plan, he's throwing millions of his Fanboys under the bus, intentionally and enthusiastically. And when he has to pay the piper with angry opposition, he views that as a separate and manageable problem: just manipulate the angry population away from him by lying or obfuscation. That's what he does, over and over, even as more and more are catching on. It's almost as if he has the memory of a fish in a fishbowl because he doesn't expand the context of his problem.

Smart enough? Who won the electoral college?
