Iowa used to have five congressional districts. For most of his tenure Ganske represented Central Iowa. It was redistricted in the 1990s to include more of western Iowa, which is much more conservative. Greg Ganske beat him in 1994.

King's district is even more rural. it does include Ames (Iowa State University) but that is about the only liberal part of the district.

All of the big cities (Des Moines, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport/Bettendorf, Dubuque, are central IA to eastern IA. Those are the blue areas. The rural - 99% of farmers are repugs. Driving between cities, you NEVER see Dem signs on rural lands.

The story is about the local middle schoolers from three schools winning a state contest in Business. The picture included about fifty kids. All had dark hair except for one or three blond or caucasian girls. The rest of the boys and girls were dark haired, pretty much all Asian and Indian, perhaps one or two Hispanic kids.
