Saw the Pussy Riot "Revolution" show in Olympia this Thursday...Freaking Amazing!
Here's an article previewing the official premiere of the show in San Francisco, the day after the Olympia preview:
(The Olympia show was a surprise performance, and it turns out this small but culturally/politically influential town has a special connection to Pussy Riot...the group's formation was inspired by the Oly "Riot Grrrl" scene and in particular by the band Bikini Kill).
Maria Alyokhina, the lead vocalist of PR, spent three years in the Russian prison system for the groups anti-Putin protests, and the show is essentially a spoken-word with live music and a DJ presentation of what happened to her, linked to the idea of revolution everywhere.
At the start of the show, she linked the anti-Putin and anti-Trump struggles by wearing a p-hat.
The crowd started in their seats, but started moving towards the stage and formed into something that was almost, but not quite a mosh pit. Fists were in raised in solidarity.
When this comes to your town, you MUST see it. It will change you.
