He said if believing the government should make sure Granny could get her teeth fixed then he's a socialist.
Great answer.

(25,816 posts)I'm in Az and on Social Security. As a poor person I qualified for AHCCCS, the
medical plan. They notified me that I was entitled to $2000 in 2016 for dental
work and $1250 in 2017. So I got dentures. Now I won't have to ever worry about
dental expenses again. Dental should absolutely be a part of medical care.

(12,631 posts)though, as the poster above stated Medicaid (in AZ, ACCESS) does to some extent but until ACA few got it. Medical eyecare is covered, but not the vision exam, nor glasses.

(31,997 posts)If he was a socialist why did he leave Great Britain to avoid British tax rates?

(99,710 posts)I remember arguing with a Brit about how America was better than Britain and I mentioned we were so great John Lennon chose to live here. He said "America loved him so much it killed him."
BTW, John Lennon' s widow donated the rights to Lennon's songs and music publishing royalties to Amnesty International.

Just a guess.
"the high marginal tax rate that Britain had at the time which was 83% on income over a certain amount. However that is not only what the song is referring to, it is mostly referring to the surtax. This tax was an additional tax on very high earners that took their highest bracket to around 95%."

(31,997 posts)The Beatles took off when they came to the U.S. I am old enough to remember that. Your point about the British tax rate is entirely correct. But a socialist should be happy to pay those rates. How else is grandma going to get her dental work done?
