Top GOP senator to Democrats: Offer your own bill to fix ObamaCare

Huh?? Not the sharpest crayon in the box, never has been.

Top GOP senator to Democrats: Offer your own bill to fix ObamaCare
By Jordain Carney - 03/14/17 03:10 PM EDT

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Tuesday that if Democrats don't like a House bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare, they should offer their own legislation.

"if you don't like this proposal, then what's your suggestion? What's your suggestion?" he asked during a weekly Senate GOP leadership news conference.

"I'm sensing that they're just sitting back on their hands and taking great glee, great joy, out of seeing this market place of their creation melting down and people being left high and dry," he added.

Democrats have skewered a House bill that would dismantle core provisions of ObamaCare, including the Medicaid expansion, and put in place a new tax credit to help people buy insurance.

A growing number of GOP senators is raising concerns over the bill after the Congressional Budget Office predicted that under the legislation 14 million additional people would become uninsured by 2018, with that number growing to 24 million by 2026.

But top Senate Republicans continued to defend the House bill on Tuesday, arguing it's currently the only path to repealing and replacing ObamaCare and is open to changes.

Cornyn on Tuesday referred to Republicans as a "rescue team" that is trying to improve the insurance market.

my congressional reps to take this GOP failure opportunity to propose the public option - NOW - whether you think it will pass or not. Folks understand, finally, that the ACA was a good thing and while it didn't go far enough - it went as far as it could in the hostile environment that it was birthed in. Now that millions of people rely on what works with the ACA I would bet they'd be behind improving it and who knows - maybe single payer could be dangled as an enticement. Where the fuck are Dems on this???? Take the ball that's been handed to you and run with it!!! Call and write your reps. The GOP has NOTHING...yet again. Now is the time to step up and take this thing further that PBO could in the face of unprecedented obstruction.

People want healthcare "fixed" now. People all know that Trumpcare is awful and many republicans are going to vote against it to avoid political damage. Propose a public opinion/single-payer and turn it into a choice: shitcare or healthcare.

It's called ACA. And it's law. Republicans and Democrats could (theoretically) work together to improve it.
