http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/14/media/rachel-maddow-donald-trump-2005-taxes/index.htmlMSNBC's Rachel Maddow teed up a major scoop about President Donald Trump's taxes on Tuesday night -- only to end up disappointing many in the political-media establishment with a report that was widely characterized as overhyped.
The big reveal, which Maddow did not get to until after a lengthy monologue and commercial break, showed that in 2005 Trump paid $38 million in federal income taxes on a reported income of $150 million.
That information was based on two pages of an IRS 1040 form supplied to journalist David Cay Johnston, who was a guest on Maddow's show.
By the time Maddow got around to sharing that information, it had already been supplied by the White House and published on The Daily Beast, where Johnston is a columnist. Even so, the documents left the public with more questions than answers.

the last paragraph -
Even CNBC took a dig at its sister network, with a headline that read: "Donald Trump just got a nice victory, thanks, of all people, to Rachel Maddow."
My view - The media is not a friend of anyone but the media - and the horserace. They don't give two shits about we the people.

(47,209 posts)Sources of loans need to be disclosed as part of the investigation into Russian influence not just during the campaign- but also now. I think she knew someone was going to use this info and she chose to do it to give context on the vital importance of him releasing the taxes. And I think she's right about that. I don't think any investigation is going to show us much without seeing his sources of income. I think most people trashing her reporting didn't actually watch it.

(25,487 posts)It is because I am a fan of hers that I am disappointed in her tonight.
She allowed herself to be used by Donald Trump to provide a distraction from more important and damaging things.
