in my hometown....8~(
On his fifth day in office, President Donald Trump elevated a portrait of his distant predecessor to a place in the Oval Office. On Wednesday, Trump flies south to Nashville, Tennessee, where he will visit the Hermitage, Jackson's home, and lay a wreath at his tomb.
From there, Trump is off to the Music City's Municipal Auditorium, where he will host a rally for supporters. It's an appropriate venue if only for its proximity to Jackson, the first president elected on a populist platform, and one known to have enjoyed the close company of his most spirited backers.
Trump's chief strategist and senior counselor, Steve Bannon, has endorsed and promoted the comparison. In a post-election interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the former Breitbart boss compared his new patron to Old Hickory.

(16,858 posts)While the Hermitage is definitely a beautiful place and it does draw tourists to the area, there's a big difference between recognizing history and honoring a a man like Jackson who was a bigoted scab of a human being responsible for the attempted annhilation of the Cherokee people.
I said in another thread, I'd wager Trump couldn't tell the difference between Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson.
As you said, it's upsetting to see this take place in our area. It's especially frustrating on a personal level having to deal with road closures and traffic being nuts this afternoon. (Currently eating in downtown before heading to the Ryman for Carol Burnett).

This is the Reich's way of thumbing their nose at Harriet Tubman. Nothing more.

(16,858 posts)I also think this Jackson symbolism is being driven by Bannon in a not so subtitle way..."populist scab, makes America great by claiming lands from people viewed as illegals"....I'd bet anything that this is obsession with Jackson is Bannon, not Trump.
