Tough Love Time for Democrats

When parents see their kids making a mistake, there is a natural instinct to want to step in and prevent the mistake to avoid the nasty consequences. However, in the long run kids sometimes have to make mistakes to learn life lessons.

The Democratic Party needs to let the GOP pass the Obamacare repeal so people learn that the GOP is nothing more than a tool of the upper 1% that literally will let you die for tax breaks for the rich.

It's the only way people will learn.

1. I think they already know that. It's the republicans who should be punished not the people

that the 'CONs will screw us every chance they get and actually make chances to do just that. Trouble with cutting taxes for the rich is its hard to pass new legislation to reinstate those tax cuts and even it its possible it take sometimes years. All the while we're fucked

If only life were so simple. Exactly how long should I hold MY hand in the fire along with "the kids" until they've realized that it's hot?

Didn't it? Brownback is on his, what, millionth term as Governor? And, now we have one of his henchmen in charge of the CIA.

Sometimes, adults have got to be adults because there is a segment of the American population which only understands hate at their own expense and the rest of us are forced to live with the repercussions.

They may be able to pass it over Democratic opposition, but surely you're not suggesting we drop opposition or, worse, actively help them pass it?

7. No, people need to see the Democratic Party standing up for important issues

Wussing out is not the way to go when many people already perceive the party as weak. Also, people wouldn't learn from this "tough love" idea at all. Republicans would still blame Democrats because that's what Republicans do, and Democrats would be blaming Democrats (perhaps rightfully so) because Democratic leadership didn't even bother to fight.

1. The Democrats should not rush to compromise with tbe GOP to soften the blowin what is still a shitty deal. (They have been burned by doing this before) LET THE GOP OWN THIS!

2. People will keep voting Republican until they've been burned by their greedy policies.

this will seem as if there really is no difference which is untrue of course. If we can get them to improve Obamacare...it would be a victory for all of us. We can not let people die for political reasons...I have asked my Dems not to collude with the GOP...butI come from a Ohio where Trump won by double digits so I do give them a break as well.

11. Also you seem to follow the Sarandon model...burn it down and a great progressive

movement will follow. I don't believe that. History has never shown any such thing. It is a giant excuse for Greens and others like Sarandon to spoil our elections. If we lose ACA there will be no public option and no single payer for many years if ever. Also, we would be as bad as the Repubs if we did something like that.

It's easy to suggest letting bad things happen to teach a lesson when you won't be affected. What is difficult is fighting FOR things, even though they won't benefit you.

We need to fight the Republicans all the way on this and keep ACA alive, until we can have single-payer universal healthcare. Please don't suggest that people should suffer because you think someone else should learn a lesson.

is the letting them know that the same old, same old of throwing their hands up in the air and loudly proclaiming "There's simply NOTHING we can do!" at the mere thought of Republican opposition doesn't cut it anymore.

16. They will NOT learn!
Thu Mar 16, 2017, 10:30 AM

I thought they would learn about Reagan after Iran-Contra,

or now that every contract is an arbitration agreement they might learn about John Roberts,

or now that cities go bankrupt they might learn about corruption,

or they might learn that Chris Christie is a lier,

or they might learn that Trump is lying.

No matter what happens, Fox is there to spin the story.

They actually NEVER learn from their mistakes, they just learn that it's liberal's fault.
