Wonder how he would feel if Barron had to make it on one meal a day? Would he still be looking for the return on his investment? Or would he feed the child because he was hunger and SUFFERING? Hungry children and grannies, but were going to let them go hungry because we need to see better 'results'. Now excuse me while I sit down at my golden table that overlooks Central Park and have some grapes and croissant with my lovely, well-fed family. I can't.....

(63,221 posts)However I went off an a tangent over at Wikipedia and started looking up Marie Antoinette & Louis XVI and the Romanovs, etc. I just kept going over there and finally just came back here.

(2,226 posts)Into good account on how and why. Really it started with the king not willing to stop spending money he didn't have, having lavish parties and buying lots of expensive jewels for Marie. The treasurer tried to get him to stop, but he just squeezed and taxed all he could out of the poor to pay for it all, until people were literally starving and revolted. Heads rolled.

(17,194 posts)I CAN'T STAND THIS WOMAN. NAKED PORN -- she sure isn't a good role model for girls and woman.
The fact that she doesn't want to live with "her husband, the president" in "AMERICAN'S WHITE HOUSE" -- well that is costing taxpayers MILLIONS & MILLIONS & MILLIONS every month her butt is planted in Trump Tower, New York City.

Supremely out-of-touch enabler of white supremacy is what works for me. Goes double for Ivanka, Eric and Donny Jr.

(25,816 posts)cooking and helping feed our guests.
They are hungry. Period. Yeah, some of them are on the streets because of bad choices, or drug/alcohol addiction, or mental illness. But the reason doesn't matter. The fact is they are hungry. And we feed all comers. Sometimes someone will show up who isn't homeless, but who is struggling to get enough food. Sometimes that someone will be a single mom with three kids. We feed them. We feed everyone who shows up.
Our biggest fear on any given day is that we'll run out of food. That's never actually happened, because we always have more food to fix, but we take pride in serving a pretty good meal.
I've even learned to cook in large quantities, and I take pride in that.
And our guests are incredibly grateful. They thank us profusely. I feel as if what I do there is the very least I can do. I have been somewhat poor at various times in my life, but while I occasionally went a bit hungry, I was NEVER homeless, and never even all that close, because I always had a job and could pay my rent. It is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that anyone can do what I did (have a steady job, pay rent, buy food) but it's not always that easy.
Oh, and about nine years ago I had a temp job in a middle school in my city, where so many of the children were below the poverty line and eligible for free meals that meals were free for all the kids. Which is actually as it should be in every single public school in the country, even in the most affluent areas. We adults had to pay for the meal, but it was remarkably inexpensive, maybe three bucks, and a decent school lunch. Of course, I was only there for three days, so I didn't have a chance to get tired of the meals.
Basic nutrition ought to be seen as a fundamental right, along with basic medical care, a decent basic education through college.
Sometimes I ask myself, Is it too late to be born in Sweden or Norway?

That family reminds me of the Gallaghers from Shameless, without any of the toughness.
