whether Trump intentionally insulted one of our closest allies, or did so unintentionally, or whether Spicer was just going off his leash when he cited the story about GCHQ as "proof" that his boss was onto something.

Made in an equally public forum as the allegations were made in the first place.

They probably figure the apology, reported places their supporters will never read, is a small price for their face-saving lie.

If the Trump admin has to eat crow for lying about Britain spying on them, then apologize to America for lying to us. Trump must apologize for being so stupid that he would believe the crazy conspiracy theories peddled by celebrity pundits, instead of getting the facts straight from his own government agencies. Apologize, Trump, for being so reckless and impulsive in your demented, senile paranoia, that the TV is your main source of global intelligence.

Whenever Obama acknowledged historic mistakes of the United States (like the internment of citizens of Japanese heritage during World War II), the Tea Baggers just went nuts about his "apologies." I wonder how they'll treat an actual apology by the Trump administration over something that Trump personally did?

But not Trump.

Trump will say he didn't apologize. That the people who said the wrong thing had to apologize, because, somehow, in his mind, he is disconnected from what is going on in his own presidency.

All their other deficiencies aside, Trump supporters are masters of rationalization. They will come up with some querulous nonsense that sounds marginally plausible to soothe their bruised psyches.

they live in an alternative reality akin to a cult. It could be argued on some level that there propaganda is a threat to national security.

wasn't so scary it would be funny. I can just imagine their war rooms and how they have to work backwards - they get into the room and on the white board is written: POTUS tweeted this.....and then they brainstorm in reverse.

To me, it was obvious from the point we knew no one ordered any tapping at TT....Bannon, Trump, Breitbart et al concocted a plan to blame Obama for tapping. This was done for one purpose only...they were scared about what was said in TT. What better way to ease their mind than to blame Obama, hoping they would say NO wiretaps - which they did. Think we got punked. Only thing they didn't plan was that dipshit would react in such an outrageous way on Twitter.

were actually trying to make the GCHQ thing into a story that "proved" Trump's wiretapping claims. Fox, or rather Trump's Pravda, was pushing this story hard yesterday. What a bunch of sad ass losers. Fox has met their match with Trump; they find themselves trying (and mostly failing) to validate and promote the Trump talking points -- yet Trump is so bizarre, so mentally ill (imho it seems very likely), compulsive about repeating claims that have long since been disproven -- he is so obviously OCD that it's rather shocking that nobody on the msm, at least someone, would mention that he is extremely compulsive, and repeats stories endlessly because he apparently feels COMPELLED to repeat the stories (we had a relative like this -- hers was a form of OCD -- and it reminds me of her -- she would repeat stories that we had all heard thousands of times but couldn't stop herself, even when we groaned and said "we've all heard this one a thousand times!" She HAD to repeat them, and all the way through -- like Trump's ongoing bullshit about the crowds at the inauguration).

Last night Trump held a dinner in honor of some Irish politicians and so on visiting for St. Patrick's Day. Yet AGAIN Trump made one of his standard, battshit crazy comments that he KNEW MORE THAN ANYBODY ELSE ABOUT MATTER X, in this case, the Irish. So Trump bizarrely declared that he knew "more about the Irish than just about anyone else knows." Nevermind historians, nevermind scholars of Irish languages or Celtic Studies or Irish church history or experts on the IRA, etc etc. Trump KNOWS MORE ABOUT THE IRISH THAN JUST ABOUT ANYBODY!! I can't think of any world leader, much less a sitting president of the United States, who repeatedly makes/made such flagrantly idiotic statements. This man is such an embarrassment!

to apologize for anything?

In order to apologize you need to be able to acknowledge error, accept responsibility, and feel remorse.
