The thought process of a lot of Texans is that the "damn Yankees" should mind their own business and worry about their own problems. (No intention of being rude to you or anyone else here.)

They don't realize they've got the natural NON-voting of minorities working in their favor without their having to do anything at all. As BEGALA said, "Texas is not a Red state. It's a NON-VOTING state." I'll say it, Hispanics don't vote their proportional share, don't have the voting ethos that the Civil Rights generation of Blacks and LBJ knew was the answer. And an unfortunate number of those who *do* vote do so against their own self-interest.
