Another stolen election

1980: Ronald Reagan's henchmen made a deal with Iran regarding the American hostages they were holding. They were not to be released until after the election, in which Reagan beat Jimmy Carter. And anyone that doesn't believe that should take note of the fact that Iran released the hostages at the moment that Reagan was being sworn in. Would Jimmy Carter have won if he'd gotten the hostages freed while he was still president? We'll never know. But we do know about the deals that were made. Some people would call that treason. (Don't believe me. Google it.)

2000: Al Gore won the popular vote and from all later accounts (and recounts), he won the Florida vote. But the recount was stopped by the Republican dominated Supreme Court. So, in effect, the Supreme Court appointed George W. Bush to the presidency.

2004: One word: Ohio. This was a stolen election and it was stolen by rigged machines in Ohio. (Not to mention other states where the same was suspected.) I won't go into more detail. Google it and learn how America got screwed again.

2016: Russia, and Comey, the head of the FBI, fucked with our election just enough to put an unqualified, ignorant, mean-spirited man into the White house. And in less than two months, sane people in this country and on planet Earth are recognizing the extent of this disaster. Turns out that Trump is even stupider and crazier than we thought he was during the campaign.

2017: The GOP is setting us up for the next stolen election. Most of them know that Trump is unhinged, but they're making believe he's not. They want to pass their crazy (evil) agenda that fucks most Americans. And as long as the madman in the Oval Office will sign whatever they pass, they'll stick with him. And they will make believe that they are behind the American people 100%. What's really sickening is how many uninformed people will buy into the bullshit being sold and continue to vote for Republicans who are fucking them and destroying their lives.

2018: This is a question. Will enough Democrats show up to vote and push the criminal enterprise called the Republican Party out of office? Or, as in all mid-term elections, will Dems stay home and allow the criminals to go full speed ahead? If the past is any guide, the miserable dicks of the GOP will continue to rule us and screw us.

Sorry to sound so negative here, but I live in the real world, not the Fox/Briebart world. And reality tells me that the upcoming midterm elections will be no different than they've been in the past.

We Dems are great at standing up for "Truth, Justice, and the American Way". But most Dems really suck when it comes to turning out for midterm elections. And if each and every one of us don't do so in 2018, we will be fucked beyond repair for the next few decades. (Assuming Trump doesn't kick off a nuclear war, ... which will be the last one.)

Dems are showing up. They're showing up early. When do those early votes get counted? In some red states they don't seem to be counted particularly carefully if at all. That's the problem, or part of it.

Yes, gerrymandering, extreme ID requirements, and intimidation have kept many Democrats from voting in many places.

However, if each and every Democrat, countrywide, gets to the polls, regardless of the blocking tactics, and votes against these thugs, we will take back the House and Senate.

They are doing everything they can to prevent us from doing so. But there are so many more of us than there are of them. If Democrats had turned out in force at every single mid term election, the Republican Party would be an out-of-power entity with nothing to sell but hatred, bigotry and racism. But for every fool who buys their crap, there are two or three others who recognize them for the shit peddlers they are.

If all Democrats show up at the polls for each and every election, the Republican Party will end up on the trash heap of history.

10. Well, theoretically, but the fact is Dems voted in record numbers in 2016.

And those were just the votes that were counted. In states like CA, where the counting is done carefully, they took a month to tally and the results were predictably lopsided in Clinton's favor. Red states seem to figure it all out around 8 pm on election night and that's that. I don't think they're faster counters. In other words if the votes aren't getting counted, and they don't appear to be, then turnout isn't the problem any more.

I have worked as an election auditor many times in a red state. Where is your evidence the votes are not counted?

I guess your assumption is the Democratic Party in those states is unbelievably stupid and does not know the early votes are not being counted. Maybe you should alert the new DNC head, Mr. Perez, that he has a lot of work to do in those states to get rid of the idiots who don't know their elections are being stolen.

theoretically we're fucked, realistically we could/should turn this around by rallying those who chose to "sit this one out", at mid-terms...hate to think it's the other way around...and either way it won't matter if we're all dead...

We Dems appeal to reason, logic, and humanity.

The Republicans appeal to hatred, bigotry, racism, and ignorance.

It's much harder to build than to destroy (as Trump is now demonstrating).

It seems that it would be easy enough to get people to vote for their own interests and well-being. However ...

Far too many people will vote based on ancient biases and hatreds rather than voting for their own well being.

The Republican Party understands this. The Democratic Party doesn't.

And what the Republicans also understand is that getting through human biases, hatreds, and the bigotry that's been passed down from generation to generation, is difficult and virtually impossible. It's why they have held onto, and still hold onto power.

I guess, to be blunt about it, we Democrats are idiots. We feel that we can reason with those who hate us and change their way of thinking. Sorry, guys. The Republicans are masters at channeling people's emotions, biases and hatreds.

We Democrats always, every single time, appeal to what we believe to be the "better side of humanity." And it never works out well.

So am I saying we Dems are wrong? No. I'm saying we need to package our ideals in a form that is understandable to the vast number of voters who keep voting against their own survival.

How do we do this? I really don't know. I guess we need our own "peddler," but one who is selling reality and truth rather than bullshit.

11. We just don't learn from history, do we?
Sun Mar 19, 2017, 06:16 PM
Mar 2017

I mean most of us here at DU are painfully aware of this stuff. But obviously America as a whole surely didn't learn from these past fuckups. Not just the stolen elections, but even scarier things like Nazi propaganda and tactics.

Well, you could say, the Fox/Brietbart scumbags learned well and used those tools to their advantage.

I know how you feel though. I too am weary of the same old same old. I don't think it's being overly negative to just honestly acknowledge what's happened and how history keeps repeating itself.

We all need to learn from the past, and part of that has gotta be acknowledging what happened!

The networks called the election for Reagan BEFORE the polls closed in Central, Mountain and Pacific time! I was putting my coat on to go vote at 7:00 or 7:30 when they called it and we never got to vote!
