But it would have been better for 45 to have done so on Jan. 20th....

The question I continue to ask myself is... "What purpose was behind keeping Comey.... when clearly 45 got rid of everyone else that was eligible for termination????"

The Director of the FBI is not a political position and has a 10 year term. Only one Director has been removed before the term expired but there was a consensus that he had misused the office.

To take out the Director you can't do it "by throwing a tantrum" you would have to show cause. Without that the termination could be legally challenged.

I'd say that, with a 58% disapproval rating already, such an action could push Mad King Donald and his party over the edge from where no recovery is possible.

8. Statutorily he can....but if he does that after all that has been exposed, it would be

seen as at least as troubling as Nixon's Saturday night massacre was. To say the least, Trump would be pilloried if he were to fire Comey. In fact, the reaction by the populace and the media would be explosive, and that would immediately turn this situation into a full blown constitutional crisis (which would probably eventually happen, anyway, even without such a firing). Such an action would ensure that the formation of an independent investigative entity would be hastened (and almost instantaneous).

It would be a horrible mistake by Trump, unless he would come to know that his illegal actions were in the process of definitely being exposed, and that he was headed toward being indicted (in which case, he would be screwed regardless).
