CANCUN What would be a dream night for Suly and Anaximandro Amable, a newly married couple who went to Cancun for their honeymoon, became a bitter experience on Monday March 13.
During a family show on the high seas, young American spring breakers began to sing the controversial Build That Wall chant, which shocked Mexican national tourists and workers. This is just one of the many blameworthy behaviors that young spring breakers have shown recently in Cancun and that are described as acts of xenophobia and discrimination against Mexicans within their own country, which is (or should be) totally unacceptable.
Anaximandro, from Perú, made the following statement on social networks: Today I was with Suly, my wife (who is a native of Mexico), watching an entertainment show off the coast of Cancun aboard a boat, and at the end of the show, a flock of Americans (maybe under the influence of alcohol, or maybe not), began to sing the infamous Build that wall chant louder and louder.
The Pirate Ship sails out from Puerto Juárez, and the show takes place in the middle of the ocean, where attendees can witness the clashing of swords and the explosion of cannons along with a constant flow of drinks. Several Mexican tourists on board the ship expressed their annoyance, but the Americans did not stop at all and continued singing the racist hymn. This situation is far from being an isolated incident, and it adds to the growing number of complaints from tourism sector workers, who point out that in recent days many Spring Breakers have been offensive, rude and haughty towards Mexican people

WHEN: March 22nd, 5-8 pm
Sponsored by National Day Laborer Organizing Network

Background from the Courage Campaign:
Donald Trump's indiscriminate crusade against our immigrant friends, neighbors, and community members is ramping up with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents terrorizing immigrant communities across the state.(1)
We can stand up against this in California by passing the California Values Act (SB 54), an urgent bill that would help protect immigrant communities under attack. (2)
Unfortunately, Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell is leading the opposition to the California Values Act -- and his intimidation tactics are working.
The California Values Act would stop state resources from being used to deport immigrants. And it would stop ICE agents from targeting people in schools, courthouses, and other public spaces.
In just a week, on March 27th, this bill is coming to a make-or-break committee vote. Thats why its so critical that we do everything we can to make sure that our voices are heard and the bill is passed.
We need to show Democratic state senators that Californians stand with immigrants, not the Trump sympathizers in the Sheriffs Association. ....
Sheriff McDonnell says his opposition to the California Values Act is about public safety -- but the truth is that many sheriffs departments across the state have multimillion dollar contracts with ICE to house immigrants awaiting deportation. If SB 54 passes, those lucrative contracts would be outlawed.(3)
McDonnell and his friends at the California State Sheriffs Association are putting their organizations interests over the interests of the community, and thats just not right. Thats why our allies at the National Day Laborer Organizing Network are organizing a rally outside of Sheriff McDonnells office to send a clear message that Trump's politics won't be tolerated in California.

(12,383 posts)I doubt however that the little assholes will be be taught a lesson for two reasons: Most of the Americans who go to Cancun are pro Mexico and respectful, and secondly, they bring in lots of tourist dollars. A few missing or just roughed up spring breakers doesn't look good on the travel brochures.

(20,629 posts)just overwhelmed by the kindness and warmth of all of the Mexican people in general, and were really turned off when we saw some fellow tourists treating the resort employees in particular as little more than slaves. I can certainly see how people of this ilk are now feeling emboldened to behave more despicably than ever.
