President Trump and Tom Price, the secretary of health and human services, arriving for a meeting with House Republicans at the Capitol on Tuesday
In a series of meetings and phone calls at the White House and on Capitol Hill, Mr. Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Republican congressional leaders haggled with holdouts over issues including regulatory details and Cuba policy as they struggled to assemble a majority to support a bill that would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The legislation is scheduled for a floor vote in the House on Thursday.
But at a private meeting with House Republicans at the Capitol, the president also delivered a blunt warning that many of those present would lose their seats in next years midterm congressional elections if the effort failed.
Im going to come after you, Mr. Trump told Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina, a prime holdout and the chairman of the conservative Freedom Caucus, a hotbed of concern about the legislation, according to several people in the room who described his comments on condition of anonymity because the session was private. I believe Mark and his group will come along, because honestly, a loss is not acceptable, folks.

Proud Liberal Dem
(24,412 posts)They refuse to vote for it, he comes after them in 2018 (assuming he's still around) which could provide an opening for Dems to win in the end. They vote for it, Dems can rake them over the coals in 2018. Seems like a lose-lose proposition. Plus, if it fails in the House, it could help take Ryan down with it.

(111,255 posts)"You're fired" doesn't work for Congress or the Justice Department. Even Ryan's threat of making sure they have primary opponents isn't going to work if they campaign on keeping the ACA, no primary opponent who wants to gut health care to give tax cuts to billionaires is going to win.
There's going to be carnage in 2018 if they pass this turkey and strip millions of people of access to health care. The few smarter Republicans understand this.
