... the first daughter fails to acknowledge .. that the very nature of her proposed role breaches ethical standards to which previous administrations have adhered for generations. That ethical breach .. threatens our national security.
... ethics rules ... are designed to guard against conflicts to reassure the public that individuals trusted with matters of immense national importance are guided only by the best interests of the country. But from the earliest days, President Trump and his children have violated these standards. The presidents questionable conflicts-mitigation strategy put his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump, Jr., at the helm of his business without removing his financial interest in the companies ...
The two Trump family members with White House roles have likewise flouted ethical norms. Shortly after the election, Ivanka Trump drew criticism for participating in her fathers meeting with the Japanese prime minister while her own business was negotiating a licensing deal with a company owned by the Japanese government. She has since officially ceded daily management of her company to a top executive and placed its assets in a trust, but she retains sole ownership and details of the extent of her control are wanting. Ivanka Trumps husband, Jared Kushner, now a senior adviser in the White House, was similarly criticized for a post-election meeting with Chinese nationals with whom he was negotiating a commercial joint venture on behalf of his own familys business. Kushner has also taken steps to divest from that business by transferring assets to his mother and brother, a move some have likened to a meaningless shell game ...
... Ivanka Trumps new West Wing post doesnt only bring more financial conflicts of interest into the White House; because shes the presidents daughter, it also makes them worse. The inherently compromising loyalty of family relationships and the necessity of genuine expertise in senior government roles are why federal law prohibits nepotism and why that law explicitly applies to the president. Trump appeared to recognize this when he repeatedly reassured the public that his children would not have any role in the government ...

(11,879 posts)putting her in the white house gives her some level of immunity from prosecution.
If she receives a security clearance, can she be covered with executive privilege? I think she has been a courier, through her relationship with Wendy Deng.
Just spit-balling.

(26,292 posts)She might be the only one who can actually control him. I get the vibe that he tolerates his sons, but is extraordinarily fond of this daughter. The other, not so much.
So perhaps a faux fashion designer with a Bachelor's Degree in economics is now, in effect, running the country.

(4,429 posts)he should be thinking about protecting his family - and his daughter. Instead, he's bringing her into the controversy MORE.
If it were me, frankly, I'd be talking to my lawyers and trying to figure out how to take the blame. The last thing I would want is my daughter in the White House.
But then again, I'm not a narcissist............

and it prevents a morale problem with other employees who may be afraid to speak up in front of, or about an employee who is a family member. It could create an uncomfortable work environment if employees are afraid to be critical of one of the president's relatives or children for fear of retribution.
None of the family has any experience having worked in the federal government. The Federal Government is not like a for-profit business, so it requires a different knowledge and skillset. The White House is the ultimate Federal Government job, and has for more than a century represented the leadership of the free world. So it is sheer arrogance to think that the daughter or son-in-law can just walk in with no experience and displace or be elevated above others who do have the requisite experience or skillset, or that someone less qualified has perks, i.e. West Wing Office, Special Working Hours of Conditions, the ear of the President at their will, while others are treated as second class citizens. The Office of the President comes with responsibilities which can uppend the entire world, not just our nation, and should never be treated as a passtime, or learning ground for someone whose bored. If the president needs a babysitter, than perhaps he or she shouldn't be the president.
