Why Republicans were in such a hurry on health care

Why Republicans were in such a hurry on health care
By Matt O'Brien March 25 at 8:45 AM

Why were Republicans rushing to vote on a health-care plan that they'd barely finished drafting, that budget scorekeepers hadn't had a chance to fully evaluate, and that, insofar as people did know about it, was widely despised?

In part, it's because their plan was so unpopular and because it got more unpopular the more people learned about it. But it's also because only by rushing to reshape a full sixth of the American economy without knowing exactly how they would be reshaping it would Republicans be able to use health care to pave the way for the rest of their agenda, including tax reform. In other words, the GOP didn't want to let a detail like tens of millions of people losing their health insurance get in the way of two tax cuts for the rich.

The silence, to me, was deafening. Makes a lot of sense.

They did not know the impact on the economy. Ignorance is bliss.

It was/is more important to these people to get funding away from the government doing so and letting the pharmas rule. Their thinking is so different from mine.

5. Get funding away from the government is so they can cut taxes on the rich

The one central principle of the right wing today is: cut taxes on the rich. Shrinking the government means less tax revenue needed which helps them cut taxes on the rich.

And the GOP donor class -- Koch/Mercer/Adelson/Walton/Murdoch etc. -- don't care if Americans die as the government shrinks.

and funding cuts. Just watch them. It's standard Republicanism. Health reforms are brought to us by people like Johnson and FDR, Democrats.

And the buildup in military spending will have a familiar outcome. Since we have lots of nice weapons, someone will find an excuse to use them.

The standard Republican way to do things is send thousands of troops like they did with Iraq. Trump himself has promised carpet bombing with the explicit deliberate desire to kill civilian women and children.

The US already has way more heavy bombers than our armed forces know what to do with. So someone in the Trump admin will find a reason to use them and get the news attention off of his daily failures at everything else.
