HAMILTON, N.Y. Former Vice President Joe Biden says that if he had run for president in 2016 he could have won.
Biden told students at Colgate University in central New York on Friday that he could have won the election but the Democratic primary would have been "very difficult."
Biden said his son Beau's battle with brain cancer kept him out of the race.
The Observer-Dispatch of Utica reports (http://bit.ly/2nS1bWc ) that Biden said anyone who runs for president should be able to "look the public in the eye and promise you they can give you 100 percent."
Biden says he doesn't regret not running but added, "Do I regret not being president? Yes."

And mark my words, they will govern like nothing happened and they have a mandate from god to keep gutting this country.
There is process in the constitution to nullify an election

(297,180 posts)this isn't helping.
The only reason he might have won is "misogyny" are the part of too many.. in my opinion.

(16,858 posts)But there was a great article that talked about Barack and Joes relationship and there was a discussion in the piece about Joe running and Barack met him man to man and asked him not to do it. Now, like I said, this was twisted by some to suggest that Obama had an ultimate loyalty to the Clinton's, but I think that perspective is extremely short sided and, frankly, wrong. Barack knew the pain that Joe was experiencing, and he knew the toll a campaign would have on him. These two men love/loved each other like brothers and I think Barack was looking out for Joe's best interests. In retrospect, Joe is being Joe by suggesting that he could have one...knowing his career, that doesn't offend me in the least. But, there's no way, given the fact that during that time he was so far behind in fundraising and organizing that he could have organized a winning campaign. Barack knew that..and went to him as a friend to convince him of that. Sadly, I think Joe knows that as well. Like I said, I love Joe, but in this instance I think he's wrong.

(2,108 posts)Monday Morning Quarterbacking is pointless and frankly, I find it a bit disrespectful toward HRC.
It's funny how candidates and politicians who didn't have to run the republican gauntlet that was this last election process all think they could have done it better and won.

(6,042 posts)I can see the endless ad now of Joseph Biden making fun of that unfortunte working class plumber. in 2008
I am weary of the "I could have been a contender" comments from Democrats who do not address what opposition research would reveal that the opposition would manipulate to use against them and how they would counter it; how they would deal with foreign influence.
For Joe Biden, there would be his stance on bank credit card industry-major employer in Delaware.
I am very sympathetic toward Joseph Biden. He has endured immense personal tragedy works hard and ia reliable. He is a good person.
I would like to hear his opinion on why Al Gore and John Kerry were not winners.

(2,198 posts)people tend to forget. The attacks would have been almost as bad as they were for Hillary. (Plagiarism, Anita Hill for starters.) He may have garnered s huge sympathy vote to counter but the GOP are very nasty people.
That said, I think it is beneath him to say the "I could have won" mantra now. It isn't helpful when the Democrats need to be a unified as possible going forward.

(92,183 posts)have won or not is meaningless because that is not what happened. He made a choice, in my view the right choice, to spend time with his son. Now he has brought this up several times as though he regrets that choice. That really doesn't make him look very good.
If he wants to give it a try in 2020, all the power to him, but it really is tiresome for him to keep bringing up, "if only"
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)The Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas debacle alone would have been a huge anchor around him.
And while his off-beat, sometimes bizarre comments are endearing to many, his penchant for saying weird things could likely have gotten him to all kinds of trouble in a campaign when he's on top of the ticket. Wacky Joe is kind of cute when Obama is his adult supervision. But as the leader of the pack, not so much.

(25,475 posts)Wouldn't that make him a horrible warmonger? Hasn't he been in government since, like, the '70s? Hello, "establishment." What about his so-called gaffe problem? Trade agreements? I don't know, I think the media would've done a number on him. Unless there's some sort of double standard.

(6,042 posts)This "If I had run, I would have won" syndrome is ego braggadocio talk and is demeaning to the politicians who engage in it. Sounds like sports channels analysis.
He did not run, therefore he could not win.
I am embarrassed for him that he would make this empty boast.

(53,998 posts)I kind of agree with him, but it's a silly thing to keep on repeating. Mostly because it doesn't matter now. I think him thinking about it that much is a measurement of his frustration at watching the country he loves get bamboozled and trashed by a classless idiot
