(8,419 posts)You will recognize the songs, will have heard them somewhere. The joke, as I see it, is they are kind of cheesy, bland, corporate rock, BS. I can't for the life of me remember where I heard the songs, likely scanning the dial and moving on.
Let me put it this way. I doubt you are going to be blown away and listen closely. For example, my older brothers would play Beatles songs over and over, go stand in line or wait until midnight for a radio station to play the new release. I was too young, but remember hearing Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews band, and others for the first time and thinking WHAT THE HELL IS THIS! Or even some not in my favorite Genre, like Alicia Keys, Adele, Sarah McLachlan, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Hornsby, etc and thinking this is some talent, let me pick up the CD and then enjoying the music.
Now I wouldn't put Nickleback songs with "We built this city," that is I don't reach for the scan button to get it off my radio to minimize the number of notes being forced upon me, but I sure can't recall stopping a scan and listening to an entire Nickleback song.
A true Nickeback hater will need to confirm or provide clarity.

Catchy in the moment (maybe), but bland and boring - formulaic.
Thanks - as I get the insult.
Peace.

(53,061 posts)Nickelback have been criticized for over-use of themes involving strippers, sex, prostitutes, drugs, and alcohol consumption,[106] and for the derivative, repetitive and formulaic nature of their music.[107][108][109] In November 2011, users of the music-oriented dating site Tastebuds.fm voted Nickelback as the number one musical turnoff, edging out Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.[110] In May 2013, the readers of Rolling Stone magazine named Nickelback the second worst band of the 1990s, behind only Creed.[111]
