$181,000 in severance proposed for ousted Bozeman, Montana city manager

Severance payments for freshly ousted Bozeman City Manager Chris Kukulski will likely total more than $181,000, according to an agreement that’ll be in front of city commissioners for approval this coming Monday.

The agreement, which aligns with provisions in Kukulski’s contract, specifies that he’ll receive a year’s salary — $148,500 — in severance pay, as well as a $27,900 retirement contribution and a $5,000 payment for life and disability insurance.

The five-member city commission, elected to serve as the city’s governing body, announced Tuesday that it was parting ways with Kukulski, the city’s chief administrator since 2004.

Kukulski’s employment contract, last modified in February 2016, specifies a severance package equal to 12 months pay, plus retirement and leave payouts, in the event he is terminated in situations that don’t involve wrongdoing or dereliction of duty.
