can someone explain the analogy?

(7,820 posts)But Game of Thrones is very much political intrigue. Fairly familiar with show and books if you give me a little context on what inspired the question.

(5,611 posts)for his youth and possible issues from being the off-spring of a brother and sister (ugh). Trump has Joffrey's totally unfounded arrogance, blind conviction in his own greatness, dim-headedness and disdain for learning (exemplified by Joffrey's treatment of his uncle Tyrion), misogyny, cowardice, etc.
Ramsay has more street smarts than Trump would ever have in a million years (and believe me, I hate Ramsay and his fate very much pleases me).

(80,708 posts)I wasn't really thinking that deeply about it; more just like how Trump is sort of cutting Ryan's dick off.

(5,611 posts)comparison to Trump. After the madness Aerys became a different person entirely, and he destroyed his own kingdom (Rhaegar was trying to replace him when that fat idiot Robert decided to fuck up everything over a woman who clearly didn't want him! Yes, I believe in R+L=J!)
I posted upthread that the closest analogy I can think of is Joffrey/Trump since Joffrey was a sheltered rich boy misogynistic ass who thought the whole world should fall at his feet and kiss his ass. He lacked any positive attributes, and he didn't have any of the creativity or wicked intelligence that makes for a good villain like Ramsay or Petyr Baelish (he's more gray than a villain I admit).

(3,860 posts)but it's easy to think of him as "Littlefinger".
And although his personality seems an exact match for Joffrey the Rotten, my point is he's beginning to look more like the Mad King who just wants everything to burn.

(37,160 posts)Game of Thrones is a medieval setting with fantasy elements (magic, dragons, etc.) where noble houses myopically vie for power while a few try to rally forces against a menace that threatens them all.
Mad kings, backstabbing, frontstabbing, all fodder for analogies. There are dozens.

In other words if you're going to compete for power then fight with everything you've got or it'll cost you everything. Seems kind of appropriate lately.

(3,666 posts)The Mad King was willing to torch Kings Landing with Wildfire in order to keep his throne. He was completely insane. Many revolted against him. But in the end it was his own King's Guard sworn to protect him with his life, who slayed the Mad King -- forever earning him the epithet of "King Slayer."
We need some Republican to step forward and "slay" (metaphorically speaking) the Mad King and save the land from being ravaged by him.
