Jeb Hensarling is an extremely deplorable Rep congressman. He is currently the chairman of the finance committee and as you might expect a T-party darling. Hensarling was present at that meeting on Obama's inauguration day when a bunch of ReThuglicans vowed to obstruct Obama in every way possible. Hensarling doesn't work for his constituents, he works for Wall St, Exxon, and payday lenders.Hensarling's current goal is to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
Well Dan Wood has stepped forward and is willing to run against Hensarling. Dan is an attorney in Terrell TX and is currently trying to raise $5000 on crowdpac to see if there is enough support to run against Hensarling. TX-O5 iis a deeply red gerrymandered district in the Bible belt of east Texas. But I assure you that we have an active and growing group of Dem and Indivisible folks, who are fed up with pig-headed and greedy Republican bigots. Dan Wood is well on his way with $4244 collected towards his $5000 goal.
If you think unseating Jeb Hensarling is well worth the effort, please send a few bucks to Dan Wood's crowdpac fund.

(56,828 posts)No Democrat ran in 2016 - Hensarling got 80+% of the vote and the Libertarian got almost 20%.
No Democrat ran in 2014, either.
In 2012, the Democrat Linda Mrosko got 33% of the vote and Jeb got 64%.
Definitely an uphill battle.

John W. Duncan - https://www.crowdpac.com/campaigns/201287/john-w-duncan-for-u-s-congress-6th-district-of-texas
There other is a Latina and I've misplaced her info but will look for it....

(4,585 posts)This Trump/corporate virus is exactly that; a virus. This thread needs to be kicked and this message spread on social media. This virus needs to be stopped. We just had another voucher bill clear the ed. committee in Austin, and now another MEpublican is sponsoring a bill that would undermine the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, and yet another bill is being sponsored that would make it so that teacher union dues could not be taken directly out of our paychecks. Fellow teachers, I urge you to contact Dr. Dawn Buckingham's office. She is a Trump surrogate.
Even though I live in a deep red town, our local superintendent (a self-proclaimed Republican) has been getting politically motivated and is sending school district employees e-mails urging us to call our representatives to ask them to vote no on these anti-public education and anti-public school teacher bills. This is a sign that there are cracks beginning to form in the MEpublicans' agendas.
I contributed to Ossoff's campaign in Georgia. Please contribute to Dan Wood's campaign in east TX! We have got to put our money where our mouths are! Thanks.

Little secret: I am Dan's campaign manager, and I found this thread by happen-stance. I'm new to Democratic Underground, but I really appreciate the interest in our campaign!

(112,167 posts)I think that you will find a great group of Texans here that are willing to lend support with the resources available at our disposal in order to defeat Hensarling.
I also recommend subscribing to the Texas Group for the latest statewide news. Lots of great folks there.

(6 posts)We are still working on our message, but our main focus so far has been on healthcare, government corruption, keeping social program funding, and wages. Think of him like a Bernie Democrat.
Honestly, our current campaign staff so far is three people (Dan, myself, and one other). We are currently working on refining our message and getting it very clear. As soon as we get more, I post it on our FB page and website.
He has two Indivisible group meetings next week (he went to one today in Mabank while I was in Austin). We like the Indivisible groups a lot; they are highly motivated and have a great game plan.

(6,682 posts)one, a large group of people in east Texas that do daily activism from home, and the other is just getting up and running in my town.
I know we will all be anxious to hear Mr. Woods' ideas. I'll keep up with his FB page and website to learn more.
May the wind be at your backs as you continue your efforts to unseat Hensarling.

(26,620 posts)and thanks for posting the link. I lived in Houston for 8 years, more than 30 years ago when politics weren't this nuts. My husband has relatives and we visit west Texas once a year.
Good luck on the campaign. I'll be sure to chip in. Bookmarked your link.

(10,252 posts)Thanks to all the DU support, especially to you folks that aren't even in District TX-05. I'm so glad that I posted this thread. The current Republican congressman Jeb Hensarling is a particularly loathsome person, who lies worse than a throw rug. So even tho' I'm an old lady of 70 living on social security, I'll jump for joy if we Dems can defeat him.
