In GOP anti-abortion bill, unmarried women would legally count as minors

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/03/iowa-gop-abortion-bill-will-grant-parents-of-unmarried-women-rights-to-control-adult-daughters-bodies/

An anti-abortion bill being offered by Republicans in Iowa would effectively ban all abortions and give parents rights over the bodies of unmarried adult daughters.

...

The bill states “injunctive relief to prevent a physician from performing abortions” may be obtained “by a parent or guardian of the woman if the woman is less than eighteen years of age or unmarried at the time the abortion was performed or attempted to be performed.”

-------------

But they are not obsessed with controlling the womenfolk. Noooooooooooooo.

This is the abortion law of Iran. I hope they're proud of themselves, the rotten bastards.

Why do patriarchal males think women remain children? If anyone is childish, it's the patriarchal male.

The Supreme Court has more or less held that while abortion is legal, states can impose restrictions past the point of viability. So I can understand Republicans introducing bills that push on the time of viability as science increases. But this is just so blatantly unconstitutional I don't see the point of putting the bill forward. Why not just put forth a bill outlawing abortion in general if you're going this far? Both would just be struck down.

I would bet good money after bad that's what the wording is SUPPOSED to mean, but apparently Republicans failed English, as well as Biology and ConLaw.

I seriously cannot decide which is worse; that they INTENDED to give control of a legal adults body back to her parents, or that they didn't and are just too abjectly fucking dumb to know how to write shit down according to the basic rules of proper grammer. Neither would surprise me at this point. The above posters are correct...The Courts will have a field day with this.

Republicans tacitly approving of the marrying of legal minors is its own horrifying thread, for another day apparently.

Christo-facists at work.

What's next? Making women caught in affairs wear the letter A in scarlet on their frock? Making women cover their hair? Making women wear long dresses?

These guys must be so excited about "The Handmaid's Tale" coming out. It's their dream come true.
