How much experience did Bill Clinton have before he ran for President? Clinton was the Attorney General of Arkansas for two years. Then he was Governor of Arkansas for 11 years during two nonconsecutive terms. Ronald Reagan was an actor and then was the Governor of California for eight years before becoming President. George W. Bush was Governor of Texas for only five years after have what some might consider a failed career as an oilman and years of drunkenness.

Bill Clinton is the only guy that had more experience in government, before running for President, than Barack Obama. The standard was not lowered for President Obama. It was lowered for many who came before him and the man who now resides in the White House.
