The New York Times just reported that two White House officials helped provide Nunes with information that President Trump and his associates had been swept up in legal surveillance, just before Nunes briefed Trump himself and then disclosed some of the information to the media and to the House Intelligence Committee that he chairs.
The Times sources identified the officials as Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence at the National Security Council, and Michael Ellis, national security lawyer in the Office of White House Counsel:
The officials said that earlier this month, shortly after Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter about being wiretapped on the orders of President Barack Obama, Mr. Cohen-Watnick began reviewing highly classified reports detailing the intercepted communications of foreign officials.

(51,129 posts)They are going to turn this into a new Benghazi, and go after Obama and try to jail him. It is their retaliatory action and an effort to get all the evidence against them thrown out as tainted by political motive. It will all be "the black guy's fault" when they are done if we let them continue this effort without pushing back.

(111,336 posts)and not the real sleazebags in the West Wing and Congress. You bet your ass they want to get the NSA and FBI off their phone lines. They went to Congress to get rich and don't want any damned investigation slowing them down.
Nunes might be the fly in their ointment as his mistakes become more numerous and obvious.

(2,771 posts)Their intent is clearly nefarious. This time, though, I think the media, the Democrats and voters smart enough to be dissatisfied all see what they're doing. They're not getting away with their shenanigans now. It's not 2016 anymore, criminals.

(51,129 posts)I fingered him as the guy a few days ago. He was Nunes' lawyer at the House Comm., in effect. It seems a HUUUUGE conflict of interest for a chief counsel lawyer to switch sides from investigator to target's lawyer.
1. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Special Counsel, Michael Ellis, now works for Trump

The lawyer for the House committee investigating #TrumpRussia went to the White House to represent trump.
Wow, does that ever scream "We need a special prosecutor."

(49,036 posts)Nunes knew the guys were WH staffers and then he lied when he said that nobody on the WH staff knew he was on the grounds of the WH reviewing top secret materials.
Further, he rushed over to tell tRump, but tRump already knew because the two guys work for him. Rushing over was just a coverup for this episode in the coverup of the #TrumpRussia crime.
Nunes is an amateur at this coverup game. His ineptness incriminates him more and more and hurt tRump-Bannon-Ryan's chances.
