Non-Jewish Holocaust Victims
Although Jews were the primary victims of the Nazi's evil, many other groups were targetted based on both racial and political grounds. Other groups singled out by the Nazis included LGBTQ individuals, the physically and mentally disabled, Roma (gypsies), Poles and other Slavic peoples, Jehova's Witnesses, and members of political opposition groups. However tragic, these non-Jewish victims are typically not considered victims of the Holocaust. According to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum in Jerusalem, By the 1950s, the English term Holocaust came to be employed as the term for the murder of the Jews in Europe by the Nazis. Although the term is sometimes used with reference to the murder of other groups by the Nazis, strictly speaking, those groups do not belong under the heading of the Holocaust, nor are they included in the generally accepted statistic of six million victims of the Holocaust.

Estimates of the total vary widely, from 12 to 18 million people. It is difficult to get a real total because records were lost completely and no one knows how many smaller examples of Babi Yar exist, local people rounded up and machine gunned into a pit for mass burial. The Nazis thought they could perfect the human race through slaughter.
And they're back.

(43,182 posts)Bottom line, between Stalin and Hitler, Europe in the 1930s-40s was nothing short of hell. Millions upon millions died at the hands of those two madmen.
That's what happens when people without morals take charge and others are too afraid to question them.

(12,608 posts)But in Trumps America, being a citizen of a country doesn't mean anything unless you fit his idea of what an American is. This is the kind of people he aligns himself with. So I am not surprised Spicer made that comment

(32,886 posts)not being considered the nationality of the country you are from and instead being considered only "Jewish" is a common antisemitic trope.

(68,586 posts)together from Germany...they were both Jewish...the family did not approve of the match...this was the late 1890's...for whatever reason, they changed their religion when they reached Wisconsin and became Lutheran...the family back in Germany considered them dead...as time went by overture were made and some reconciliation happened...my Grandma tried to get the family out of Germany or at least the children but she could not...they were not allowed in this country during the 30's and early 40's . Then WWII came...everyone from that side of the family died...My Grandmother and her Mother could find no survivors after the war...My Grandma said there were many from both sides...but not one person came back alive...from what we can tell some went to German concentration camps, many were resettled in the East and died in Auschwitz and other death camps. We are the only descendants from that family...My Dad's Father was Irish... escaped being hung in the 20's...he walked out on my Dad and Grandma in 1931. My Dad was two years old. I was a child of late middle age...and learned of my family history as a teenager...I was quite shocked...I read about the holocaust and wondered if any were people of our family...I wish I had not done that...you can't un-see the horror of those pictures...anyway Spicer is a tool and term holocaust centers is alt-right.
