(58,656 posts)but we have several red districts in the state, and I think at least a couple of them can be flipped.

(11,243 posts)I am self-employed. No serious preexistings, but my insurance is already sky high. Sigh. It is sad to be forced to leave an entrepreneurial job where I earn good money and create value for the community because I can't afford it anymore because of HEALTH INSURANCE! But that is where I am heading.
This is why red states fail. They punish their creative class so we take our skills and and go pay taxes in places where we are appreciated. Sick of having my taxes taken, my votes stolen and nothing in return except insults. Fuck it. It gets really old. And fuck the state leaders who get GREAT state health insurance but screw me on mine.
So much worse for those on a fixed income who lack the resources to leave or find other employment. Those people will suffer more than necessary. Some will die.

(58,656 posts)Repubs want to keep people in wage slavery. I always figured that O'Care would open up the entrepreneurial spirit. Many people cannot afford not to work in a corporate job, even as they get scarcer and scarcer.

(11,243 posts)Hardly anyone works at the same career for a lifetime, much less the same company. It is all contract work and gigs and small businesses now. And small business adds more to local economies too. Jobs and profits don't get outsourced the way big companies do. Corporate talent isn't taxed as extravagantly, but they sill want good public schools and nice public amenities. Things the GOP despises. Cities and states who can attract the talent win because that creates more jobs and increase the local tax base. The ones that don't are dying.
The GOP doesn't care. They would rather let their states die economically than change or risk getting voted out of power. Lets be real. Most of us mobile workers don't vote the 'right' way. If you are mentally and emotionally flexible enough to navigate the perils of self employment successfully, rigid RW ideology probably doesn't appeal. So they are driving us out by making it too expensive and uncomfortable to stay, I guess. Killing the goose who laid the golden egg, IMO, but you can't reason with them.

(6,797 posts)1 dem senator, 1 rep senator who say neither one will vote for Trumpcare (hopefully Portman doesn't sell us out, I know Brown won't). My misrepresentative is a scrawny little chicken shit who's afraid of his own shadow and does nothing but vote with his party and collect a paycheck. Sorry for the rant.
