Kasich Should Run A Primary Campaign Against Trump

If Trump is still in office in 2020, we should hope to see John Kasich, the Republican Governor of Ohio, run a Primary Challenge against Trump.

Moderate Republicans might rally to Kasich, and Trump may have done some more terrible sh!t to own up to by then that alienates him from more Republicans.

Hopefully we can get Republicans to abandon Trump. Not that I want Kasich over a Democrat in the White House. Still, I would rather risk losing to a Moderate Republican like Kasich than four more years of this incompetent narcissist and his awful enablers (Pence, Bannon, Spicer, etc.).

Kasich was just on Real Time with Bill Maher and said a lot of sane and smart things about Medicaid and Health Care.

I hope that Trump is out of office before 2020, by Impeachment or Removal through the 25th Amendment. Barring that, hopefully someone like Kasich will knock Trump out in a Primary, and then we will have a real choice between a sane Republican and a good Democrat. Then our National Nightmare would be over.

What about his inherent mental stability? I do not know Kasich as well as you Folks from Ohio, but he seems to be sane. That is the worst thing about Trump, in my opinion. He is really insane and dangerous, and all his negative policies flow from this madness.

Kasich seems to not be mad/insane. He is just a right-winger, which I oppose, but at least he is not a crazy right-winger. He is simply wrong on most issues, but is not unreasonable or mad.

As someone who knows Kasich better than myself, would you agree or disagree? Is Kasich stable? He seems sane me from what I have seen of him. Just wrong on most policies and positions, seemingly excluding some health care stuff.

Immediately upon taking office in Ohio, he started pushing through all kinds of disastrous Right-Wing bullshit. Remember Scott Walker's union-busting bill he passed in Wisconsin? Kasich put through the exact same bill in Ohio, but he got his ass handed to him when the people of Ohio voted it down on referendum. He also fully supports the old Bush agenda, privatization of everything, charter schools, trickle-down economics, the whole thing.

And while he might seem like a breath of fresh air when compared to Trump, believe me, he's no picnic. We Ohio voters have had to fight his disastrous agenda at pretty much every turn. Calling Kasich a moderate Republican is sort of like calling Moe the smart stooge.

since you are someone from Ohio and are familiar with Kasich. Part of the reason I put forward the idea of a Primary Challenger is that I hate Trump so much, even a bad Republican seems like a marginally better option than Trump. But really what I would like is to see the Republicans fight amongst themselves in a Primary, so that whoever they put forward for the Presidency has already gotten beaten up.

A Primary challenge will also drain money and resources away from Trump so that he will have less to use by the time he gets to the General Election. If Trump runs again, remember he will be running as an incumbent, and we need to use every tactic and trick to cut him down, including the idea of seeing him challenged in a Primary. It is a sign of a candidate's weakness when an incumbent is challenged by someone from within their own Party.

Similar thing happened in the 1980 Presidential campaign when Ted Kennedy challenged a sitting Democratic President, Jimmy Carter, from within the Party. It helped hobble Carter before the general election, and contributed to his loss to Reagan. I would like to see something similar happen to the Republicans in 2020. Kasich may be odious, but we can use him as a weapon against Trump and the Republicans.

For tactical purposes, it makes sense. And K-Suck is definitely better than Trump, but it's like hitting yourself in the head with a slightly smaller hammer.

I guess I'm not really thinking about 2020 because the idea that Trump will STILL be in office by then makes my head implode. I'm 100% confident he's going to be impeached before then, and I'm laser-focused on 2018 in order to make it happen.

He might win, but I would prefer him as an opponent to Trump. If Kasich won the Republican Primary, there is no guarantee that he would win the Presidency, which is the point.

Part of my argument is that I would rather risk losing to Kasich more than I would risk losing to Trump. My hope and expectation is for a Democratic victory in 2020.

I think OP means well, but I for one am not going to worry about hypothetical repug candidates. If Dolt 45 has not been impeached or carried off to the looney bin by 2020, he will run for re-election unopposed by anyone in the repug party. Hatred for 45 will win the day for we Dems. We need to stay on message, stay unified, and the repugs can go to hell whoever they put in the running in 2020.

A core of Republicans love Trump right now, but it is highly probable that prior to 2020 Trump will fail to keep many of his promises to his base, and he might implode and alienate them.

I should note that even if Kasich or other Republicans run in a Primary Campaign and do not win, it would still help undercut Trump in the General Election. It is a sign of weakness for an Incumbent President to be challenged in a Primary in his own Party.

By 2020 Kasich could build a coalition of moderate Republicans plus those Trump Followers who regret voting for Trump, and there are some who have buyer's remorse right now.

Again, Kasich does not need to win to undercut Trump and force Trump to spend money, time, and resources in a Primary fight. A Primary would show Trump as weak anyway.
