I saw a report on cable news this morning that quoted a poll that said only 3% of Trump voters do not support him at this time.
What would ever change these people's minds?
How do we explain such a poll?

(24,259 posts)I Googled to try and find more about the polls you saw and while I didn't find the new ones I found older ones with the same darn 97 and 3%.
The only thing that will change SOME of their minds is if Trump hits them or their loved ones in the wallet or adverse healthcare. For others I think Jesus and a host of singing angels could come down on a bright glowing cloud saying, Trump is the anti Christ, and they still would chose Trump.

(2,396 posts)Right now it's only been four months (in real time haha), so nothing he's done has affected them directly yet. I also think some can't admit that they were wrong, even to themselves.

(65,010 posts)It got what, 44% of the vote of the 52% of people that voted? That's 22.88% of all eligible voters. If 3% now have stated regrets, that bring him down to 22.2%.
This isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

(36,461 posts)I think a common trait a lot of his supporters have is the refusal to admit when they are wrong - just like Trump. In this case, especially, the evidence of what a horribly compromised man he is, has been there all along, if you were willing to just read a few articles on his business dealings in the past much less his mocking the disabled reporter, his racist comments, & the Access Hollywood tape. The smart ones are realizing that he really is a fraud, but they will dig in even harder, before they admit that the libtards were right about this sorry man.

(9,670 posts)And all this uproar about Trump-Russia is simply sour grapes on the part of the Democrats.
These people have been and are being brainwashed. They have been led to believe that any source of news other than the "state-approved" propaganda networks are disseminating false news.
Turn off FOX News, turn off the hate radio, wait 6 weeks, and watch that 97% plummet to 57%. 47%. 37%.

(22,976 posts)And they do not seek outside (for them) information sources-- the echo chamber has warned them about the Washington Post, NYT, and anything on cable besides Fox -- all are "liberal, left-wing, mainstream media," etc. and are not to be believed. Their bloviating figurehead himself called the media the "enemy of the people," which smacks a bit of Germany c.1933.
I'm afraid these individuals are lost for good. Reaching out to them, trying to appeal to them, is just a waste of time.

(82,849 posts)How does a polling outfit identify Trump voters? The ballot is secret (for now), so the only way they can identify a Trump voter is if the voter himself/herself discloses that fact.
So, who is most likely to admit being a Trump voter? I submit that it's someone who is still pleased with Trump as president. Trump voters who have become disillusioned with the chee-toh haired shitgibbon may be too embarrassed to tell anyone that's how they voted.
My reaction as well.
It is by far the worst 100+ days I've ever seen or heard about for a president. And the poll is suggesting a fairly minor 3 point shift? I don't believe it.

(2,955 posts)There are some people who are so spiteful that they'd happily see the country burned to the ground so long as it pissed off liberals. You also have the anti-muslim/anti-gay/anti-abortion single issue voters who just blindly vote R every time over those issues.

Trump is merely a prop to them. They sound like Tea party religious people and armchair 1st and 2nd amendment warriors at best. They like the freedom of speech idea when it's their (white) speech. They like guns when it's their (white) guns. They want prisons for brown and black peoples. Some of them sound genuinely stupid, with "God protect President Trump" crap. They are very gullible to conspiracy. They are bigots, and what many of them actually share with certain of the left is a lack of understanding how white supremacy is reflected in..everything.
Trump, with his gross ignorance must seem as one of them, despite the fact he only shares the overt idea or hidden idea of racial supremacy and male entitlement.

(22,976 posts)Or at least the illusion of same.
Barack Obama was a threat to them; as long as he was in office, their white privilege (which is about all some of these folks have) was threatened. Thus the spike in firearms sales, overt racist behavior, etc.
It would appear that the American Civil War is still being waged.

The man is a lunatic. Nothing he does is going to make sense to anyone and he's eventually going to start to scare a lot of them.
WE don't do anything. This isn't our mess and we can't fix it for them, not this time. All we can do is hunker down, watch the spectacle, and survive.

(218 posts)This is the Trump following. Nothing will shake them.
I see them at Free Republic and Reddit.
They support Trump to the exclusion of everything else.
Even when Thuh Wall wasn't going to be built, most of Free Republic shrugged it off...and screeched at those who were upset.
There are only 2 things I think he could do to lose his base.
1. Gun Control
2. Denounce Jesus/Christianity
And I'm iffy on the 2nd one.

(17,377 posts)And Hillary would be president. The margin of error on the sub-sample of Trump voters is also probably somewhere around 7-8%, so it's possible they are actually a little bit more elastic.
