Obvious questions about the "ethics" of Jeff Sessions' role in the firing of James Comey focus on his taking action on the Russian investigation -- after he had recused himself when he was proven to have lied to the Senate committee. What should also be noted is that Sessions had promised to recuse himself from anything involving the Clinton campaign, yet the letters he and the assistant Attorney General focused primarily on Comey's handling of the e-mail issue:

(525 posts)are required to remove Jeff Sessions from office. As the Republicans learned the hard way from the Bill Clinton impeachment, failure to get a guilty verdict via 67 Senators' votes only emboldens the impeached official.
I doubt that there are 19 Republicans in the Senate (plus all 48 Democrats & Independents) who would vote a former Senator guilty.

Some SMD suffers are tough as hell. Others -- like Sessions -- are toad stools.

(90,766 posts)I know we can't simply jail racists, but there is absolutely no reason to allow them in government.
A government with racists, whether they be in Congress or part of the cabinet, is a government that does not have the good of the country in mind. They will create laws and policies that serve only to harm others.
Racists have rights, I get that - but hate is not a desirable trait and ignorance serves no purpose in government.
They have a right to exist but that doesn't mean their thinking should be tolerated.
That Sessions recused himself and acted as he did anyway doesn't come as a shock but, yes, Sessions needs to go. He should have never been elevated to begin with.
Sessions is damaged goods. Like all racists.
