His mother, Asha Deliverance, spoke of her son Saturday morning her on Facebook page.
She wrote:
"Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, My dear baby boy passed on yesterday while protecting two young Muslim girls from a racist man on the train in Portland. He was a hero and will remain a hero on the other side of the veil. Shining bright star I love you forever."
Meche graduated from Reed in 2016 with an economics degree. He worked for the Cadmus Group, according to his Facebook page. The Massachusetts-based company's website says, "We deliver services and solutions that transform markets and behaviors, create social and economic value, and improve people's lives."
Portland authorities have not confirmed the identities of the two stabbing victims who died or a third victim who was hospitalized.
Reed College communications director, Kevin Myers, said he used to play basketball with Meche a couple times a week when Meche was a student at the college.
"He really was just, just a selfless, selfless person," Myers said. "And clearly to act like this is evidence of that."

(13,776 posts)The world is a lesser place because they are no longer in it... but a better place because of the courage, selflessness, and humanity they showed in their last moments.
I live in the Portland area. They will NOT be forgotten here.

(9,426 posts)Your son is a hero, and will always be remembered as such. Only cowards pick on innocent young people because they do not want to be retaliated against by someone their own size.

(9,897 posts)This is not a nation any longer...it is a collection of people living in common vicinity but separate realities. There are people amongst our citizenry who champion beating the press, killing minorities and meeting everything with violence instead of empathy or discussion. There is a hateful element among us that has hijacked the GOP much like islamo-facists have hijacked Islam...
The right wing has divorced itself from reality, embraced bluster and violence as its raison d'etre and become something akin to a cancer that must either be excised or eradicated before it kills the body whole.
Fuck them all and grant them no quarter, but don't forget these earliest victims when the history is written.

(20,588 posts)someone told of being harassed in a mall for having brown skin. Everyone just stood by. This event tells us that these people are really gone and it is hard to know what to do in these circumstances. We have to figure this out as a society.
