(115,686 posts)Harding, like Trump, appointed a number of unqualified (and sometimes corrupt) friends and cronies to federal positions; however, the numerous Harding administration scandals (like Teapot Dome) mostly happened without Harding's involvement or even his knowledge, but were the result of his reliance on and failure to monitor or manage his dishonest appointees. He was actually quite well-liked and popular during his lifetime.

(29,199 posts)Harding was president during prohibition which saw the rise of bootleggers and the establishment of the mafia as something more than protection rackets in "little italys" in our major cities. The Teapot Dome scandal was just one of the many scandals that happened under Harding. He is often rated as the the worst US President (but that was pre-Trump who is going to set a new scale for worst ever). The 1920s set the seed for the economic crash (years after Hardings death) and the subsequent rise of fascist nationalism and WWII.
So yeah, Trump could remind me of Harding.
