1. I have never, ever seen advertisements trashing a witness at a congressional hearing.

Even Nixon didn't take out ads slandering John Dean, who was the most dangerous witness against him. It's disgusting. But I don't think Comey's career is ruined - he'll land on his feet quite nicely, with a good job as a well-paid lawyer with a part time teaching gig at a law school.

3. There are so many advertising venues...

and, money will get you whatever air time you desire. I probably won't see one here in Oregon, but nothing surprises me anymore.

Life works in warp drive these days. This wasn't the case before the net. Our last big governmental investigations occurred long before the internet. The 9/11 hearings occurred when most of us hadn't ever given thought to a smartphone.
