Kansas rebukes Brownback - A minirevolt???

Republicans in Kansas broke ranks with the state's conservative governor Wednesday night, voting to raise rates and put an end to a series of tax cuts. The GOP revolt is a defeat for Gov. Sam Brownback, who overhauled the state's tax system beginning in 2012, bringing down rates and causing repeated, severe budgetary shortfalls.

Kansas's legislature is overwhelmingly Republican, but moderate GOP lawmakers joined with Democrats, overriding Brownback's veto of a bill they'd already passed once that would raise taxes again by $1.2 billion over two years. Eighteen of the state's 31 GOP senators and 49 of the 85 Republican members of the House voted against the governor

This is a major rebuke. Moderate Republicans and Democrats came together to save the state from horrendous tax cutting induced deficits.

and I am fully acquainted with many of the people involved in this. This was no mini revolt. It has taken several elections with lots of planning and working with moderate R's to get them into office so this could happen. The women and men in our legislature have been putting in so much overtime and work to get this to happen. Remember David Koch (or it might be Charles I cannot remember which one of the evil duo still lives in Kansas) regularly comes to be present when voting is done. The pressure is hard and obvious. It took time to find people who would stand up to that.

To call this a mini revolt is somewhat insulting. I don't think you meant it this way but the people who made this happen have been pushing that ever growing boulder up an ever steepening mountain for a long time. Hooray for them. How about a full, homegrown revolt. To paraphrase a friend of mine with some addition by me, Kansas has just shown that it is OK for people in the same party as the leader to vote against the leader when they know he is dead set wrong and crazy. Let this be the beginning and start for the rest of the countries leaders. Lord knows there is plenty of crazy out there leading the country.

This is stunning and was won by relentless legislators working for the people.

NE, SE, NW, SW or central to all of those? You don't need to answer unless you want to. I live just South of Topeka so I can get into all kinds of stuff easily. Jayhawkers are the best. We may be down but we never give up. My ancestors were Free Staters and very involved in the early John Brown struggles here, no way will I give up. 16 years and you are deep into Kansas

This too may pass here, we will see. There is time to turn it back before our next Gov., Kobach. One can hope that does not happen but these days it is likely. Hard-headed farmers and out in the middle of nowhere communities are not likely to give up the R's that easily. One would think this would have changed minds. We will see.

The "Freedumb" caucus is giving moderate Republicans hell.

Our state is going downhill.
At this point the Tea Party is winning.

It seemed to get really bad then level out and get some better then bad again. Texas seems to bounce around a lot but it really is getting worse from what I have read. It is hard to watch what is happening to you all. Just keep working, it is the only way.

not recently, and watched as the R's went out one at a time then came back and voted as a solid block. Standing in the hallway after the vote was David Koch smiling and shaking hands. Thanks, they are one in the same to me but I really should be able to keep them straight.
