(2,795 posts)62% think he's a strong person and 57% think he's intelligent? How do those numbers jive?

(26,623 posts)I think they left out the "not" as in not strong and not intelligent, because he's obviously neither.

Compared to his unwashed, uninformed, uneducated base he probably seems like a genius to them.
"Yup Jethro, that Mr. president, he gots them good wurds, and a some smart brains!".

(115,724 posts)Ol' Dick finally hit about 26%, but that was after the hearings and the disclosure of the "smoking gun" tape. Dolt 45 will get there eventually, I think.

(14,565 posts)Nothing prior to Katrina really dented him. After Katrina his numbers lingered in mostly the upper 30s until April 2008 when he briefly dropped below 30%. I remember it well because I took advantage and bet the Democratic nominee to win the presidency at that point at favorable rate.
Then the stock market collapse in the fall plummeted Bush to lows not seen in decades. I'm not sure of his low water mark but I know it was in the 20s for weeks. I pressed up my wager. Obviously at that point Obama was already the nominee, unlike April with my initial wager.
This stuff depends where you shop. The consensus approval numbers will not place Trump anywhere near 34%. It's like the averaging of political polls.
The problem right now with the number going lower is that Trump is in the very early stages of his presidency, unlike Nixon in 1973-74 or Bush in 2006-08. Republicans are going to be extremely stubborn in believing the allegations and abandoning him. It would likely require a smoking gun, if not several of them.
If he gets by this Comey testimony there is actually quite a bit of room for an upward bounce. As always I'm viewing this as a handicapper and gambler, not a blatant partisan. I realize that is not always popular on specialized message boards.

(7,768 posts)On Gallup, he's flat-lined at 38% approval for the last two days. (still WAY too high)

(68,868 posts)That would still be 37-38 approve vs 53-54% disapprove.

(10,500 posts)That is actually an improvement from a couple months ago when it was more like 59-36.
People think that because he is wealthy he must be smart.

(2,809 posts)Of course their polls are right-wing slanted, Rasmussen is even worse with their Trump "approval" at 46%

(23,295 posts)they made a mistake and still give you a weak "let's wait and see" when you ask "how's that wall coming along?" or "what happened to the 30 day plan to destroy ISIS?" Or "are you tired of winning yet?"

This guy rigged the last election. Over and over again he illegitimately interfered to damage the Democratic nominee.
What does he care if Trump is taken down? The GOP took back the White House, Hillary was totally humiliated and Neil Gorsuch is on the Supreme Court.
