It’s infrastructure week at the White House and Vice President Mike Pence was set to take time out of his birthday celebrations to speak with PBS “News Hour” about the administration’s plan.

Unfortunately for Pence, there’s a slightly more high-profile event taking place in Washington D.C. this week: the testimony by former FBI Director James Comey, who is set to speak before the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday.

A day before Comey was set to give his testimony, the Senate Intelligence Committee released the former FBI director’s opening statement—ensuring the news cycle will remain decidedly fixated on the president’s attempts to sideline an investigation into former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn.

A mere hour after that testimony dropped, Pence abruptly cancelled his scheduled interview, according to producer Sara Just. As the Hill reports, PBS correspondent Miles O’Brien was already on location at Johnson Space Center to speak with the birthday boy.
