Chaffetz: Money 'partly' responsible for decision to leave Congress

Why doesn't he just make do without the latest iPhone?

This is far more chit-chat than LBN.

Chaffetz: Money 'partly' responsible for decision to leave Congress
By Max Greenwood - 06/28/17 06:46 PM EDT

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) acknowledged Wednesday that money was "partly" responsible for his decision to leave Congress.

"I mean, look, we're paid a very handsome salary, but our home is in Utah. I didn't move to Washington, D.C. I sleep in a cot in my office," Chaffetz said on Fox News. ... "And faced with another 100 to 200 nights a year where my wife's by herself in Utah and I'm in a cot in Washington, D.C. – as nice as the salary is – I can't afford to have two places and have a quality of life I'd like to have at this point," he said.

Chaffetz, in an interview with The Hill this week before he leaves Congress, called for lawmakers to receive a $2,500 monthly stipend to help them cover the cost of housing in D.C. ... That proposal suggested that financial concerns were part of the Utah Republican's decision to leave Congress at the end of June, more than a year before his term is set to expire.

By giving lawmakers a housing stipend, he said Wednesday, lawmakers might not feel obligated to return to their states or districts every weekend and could maintain a higher quality of life. ... But as it stands, he said, serving in Congress is a "rich man's game."

for a Washington pad for himself.

He should be paying us back the millions he spent on phony investigations to promote his party over his country.

I think there is more to the story of why he is quitting in the middle of his term.

or as chairman of a major committee's responsibility is to investigate Donald Trump's shenanigans.

The Republican chairman, whos job is to investigate the Republican president.

Especially this president who could break down the whole Republican Party.

Who would not want that job

Rumors about Campaign funds for personal usage.

Rumor about certain money used for Real Estate purchase.

Rumor about Jason being investigated by Ethics Committer and he cut a deal.

Jason would not know the truth if it hit him in the face.

BTW,his Alpine Utah House is some where north of a million bucks for a starter home. Know the area,he ain't living in a tool shed.

This is why he is too poor to get an efficiency apartment in the greater DC area: http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/jason-chaffetzs-house/view/google/

11. I Call BS

I call BS on the idea that Jason Chaffetz left Congress because he did not have enough money to maintain two homes. First, Chaffetz has been a Congressman from three to five terms. If this was really about being away from his wife and not being able to main two homes he likely would left Congress after his first or second term. Second, how is it that a guy making about $14,500 per month cannot afford to either maintain two homes, or move his wife out to Washington, D.C.? I understand that members of Congress pay taxes on their salary, but why can chaffetz not afford to get a one bedroom apartment close to the Capitol? Why can he not move his wife to Washington, D.C.? Chaffetz does not need a $2,500 stipend in order to be able to afford to pay rent for an apartment in Washington, D.C. Third, did he not just take employment at FOX News? So, will he do his job from Utah, or will he do his job from New York, or Washington, D.C.? If he moves to New York in order to do his job that seems to prove his retirement from Congress was not about wanting to spend more time with his wife.

I think there is another reason Chaffetz left Congress so abruptly. I would not be surprised if in a few weeks, or months the American people learned that Chaffetz did in fact have an affair. He may then try to blame the affair on being away from his wife and being weak from having to sleep on a cot.
