PoliticoThe secretary of state, frustrated by negative press coverage and delays in appointing staff, unleashed his anger in front of Reince Priebus, Jared Kushner and others.
Secretary of State Rex Tillersons frustrations with the White House have been building for months. Last Friday, they exploded.
The normally laconic Texan unloaded on Johnny DeStefano, the head of the presidential personnel office, for torpedoing proposed nominees to senior State Department posts and for questioning his judgment.
Tillerson also complained that the White House was leaking damaging information about him to the news media, according to a person familiar with the meeting. Above all, he made clear that he did not want DeStefanos office to have any role in staffing and expressed frustration that anybody would know better than he about who should work in his department particularly after the president had promised him autonomy to make his own decisions and hires, according to a senior White House aide familiar with the conversation.
The episode stunned other White House officials gathered in chief of staff Reince Priebuss office, leaving them silent as Tillerson raised his voice. In the room with Tillerson and DeStefano were Priebus, top aide Jared Kushner and Margaret Peterlin, the Secretary of States chief of staff.

(30,813 posts)He goes out and says semi-reasonable things around the world. And then Mr. Short Fingers completely undercuts him with single stupid tweet.
And who in the White House is leaking bad info about him? It must be a circus dealing with Trump and his minions. Working there must be like living in the middle of a bad joke.

(17,917 posts)Compared to Rexxon, 45 is some two bit real estate hawker. The CEO of a Fortune 5 company is not use to being treated with way, much less to rank incompetence. But....he signed up for it. He should have known what fucking clowns these people are.

(23,314 posts)You knew who these con artists were when you took the job and now you're miffed that it's not all working out the way you thought? Well, it's not working out so hot for the rest of us either. Fuck you. Join the resistance and be a patriot. You will only go down with this stinking ship.

(1,148 posts)I couldn't help but chuckle to myself--don't you know what you're getting into? Trump isn't competent enough to run this scam like a normal CEO. So you sold your reputation for nation-compromising ambitions, fine who hasn't in your line of work!
But I don't think you fully considered that your entire collection of life and business experience mean nothing anymore. The summation of your life is now "one of Trump's chumps".
Continue foaming, Mr. Tillerson.

(17,917 posts)Damn scary times we live in. It's by the grace of one's personal deity that something really terrible hasn't happened, due to the stupidity currently occupying the White House. It's not like we're the most loved country the world over. And certainly not now.

(1,660 posts)worse than Bannon, Kushner, and maybe Trump himself. He is also the closest to Putin and Russia. It also appears that he is running the State Department nearly independent of the WH because he can.

(733 posts)were lifted. In his confirmation hearings, he didn't seem upset that he didn't know basic policy. For a Fortune 500 CEO to put his reputation on line for a corrupt administration shows that he didn't even bother to do due diligence about the job.
And now he finds that he can't run his own department, that Trump will undercut him at any time and he is shut out of the inner circle.
Con man falls for the biggest con. As they say: if you don't know who the patsy is, it's you.
