According to the Windy City Times, three participants in the Chicago Dyke March carrying a rainbow flag with the Jewish Star of David in its center were asked to leave the parade by organizers because it was making others at the event uncomfortable.
One of the three individuals ejected from the celebration was Laurel Grauer, a manager at A Wider Bridge, the organization "building a movement of pro-Israel LGBTQ people and allies, with strong interest in and commitment to supporting Israel and its LGBTQ community."
Speaking to the Times, Grauer said, "They were telling me to leave because my flag was a trigger to people that they found offensive. It was a flag from my congregation which celebrates my queer, Jewish identity, which I have done for over a decade marching in the Dyke March with the same flag."
Eleanor Shoshany-Anderson, an Iranian Jew, was also told to leave. She said to the Times, "I was here as a proud Jew in all of my identities. The Dyke March is supposed to be intersectional. I don't know why my identity is excluded from that. I feel that, as a Jew, I am not welcome here."

(71,265 posts)That would never happen here in the NYC Pride March.

(29,067 posts)with a Christian cross on it, I doubt it would have many defenders here. Just sayin',

(22,336 posts)I've only been to a few, but they were all full of affirming Christian churches with flags like you're describing, and I've never seen any get any bad reactions.

(29,067 posts)the noted parade simply wanted it to be non-sectarian?
Why is that a problem? We do have a Separation of Church and State tradition. .

(3,014 posts)They've issued a statement that the Magen David is triggering to pro-Palestinian marchers. Fuck those antisemites. Those of us who are Jewish will not be quiet.

(29,067 posts)realize that's what this was about.
Not a big proponent of this "triggering" crap since, I imagine, anything can "trigger" anyone about something. . The snowflakes need to recognize that it's not a "safe space "world.

(37,748 posts)just sayin': a term coined to be used at the end of something insulting or offensive to take the heat off you when you say it.
But I'm quite certain you'll quickly allege sincerity and righteousness.

(26,060 posts)week and it still disgusts me. Poor little babies triggered by a Star of David - fucking assholes. Let them try and march in Palestine and let us know how it goes.

(26,060 posts)I've been a Democrat and have stood for gay rights my entire life (I'm 56). I'm startled to see what happened to the Labor party in GB happening right here - they seem determined to drive the Jews out - not all Jews - just the VAST majority that are Zionists (they're welcome to those religious freaks who don't think Israel should exist until the Mossiach comes). And it pisses me off on THIS subject more than the rest because if they tried to march in ANY Muslim majority country they would face jail, beatings and death. That goes for Palestine also. But it's the Jewish star that gets their panties in a twist. Fuck them. They're assholes.

(26,330 posts)And yes, Lesbians march in the main Pride parade. This is an off shoot group that wants a more "safe space"
Next year it will be something else triggering their triggers.

(99,710 posts)The appropriate response would have been to let those who oppose flying the Star Of David fly the flag of their choice including the Palestinian flag.

We may someday live up to our creed: all people created equal.

(6,324 posts)From what I have seen looking at this flags with a Star of David- not Israeli flags but just ones with a Jewish symbol- were banned but at the same event there were pro-Palestinian flags and signs?
Wow.
Talk about a huge bout of cognitive dissonance. Have they forgotten what a Pride event is about? They can't be so ignorant to know what one of those symbols actually represents systematic oppression and even execution of the LGBTQ community and which one does not. Even if it was an Israeli flag, which it wasn't and was several degrees removed from, they still would be clearly siding away from the side of LGBTQ friendly governments, cultures and religions.
