Helena, Montana police say alcohol may have been factor in sheriff's arrest
HELENA -- Alcohol may have been a factor in a June 15 incident that resulted in a misdemeanor assault charge against Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards, Helena police said Wednesday.
Assistant Chief of Police Steve Hagen released some information about the June 15 incident at the Radisson Colonial Hotel, saying further questions should be directed to the Helena city attorneys office.
Edwards is to appear in Helena Municipal Court on a misdemeanor Partner or Family Member Assault charge on July 19.
Edwards and his attorney were not available for comment Wednesday.
The incident occurred while Edwards and his girlfriend were at the annual Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association's convention, which was attended by about 200 law enforcement officers.
